£899 with stand - anyone got one? any good?

Price sounds good as it's £1132.28 (online price) at Currys, don't know how it compares to the Toshiba/Panasonic? been looking at 36" CRT's too and JL have the Toshiba 36ZP48 for £1045 inc. delivery & 5 year gaurantee. The 36ZP46 (minus the extra speakers & Dolby 5.1) was on offer just a week ago for £799 at Dixons/Currys but they have since put the price back to £999 :(

Yes, I saw the Toshiba at Currys for £799 ....

Then I read reports that the Philips was a better bet and at £899 I am a bit tempted - its just I would feel more comfortable with a Panasonic or Toshiba (from a reliability point of view)

Had a 28" ws Phillips - tube lasted 2 years :( - now on Panasonic - more faith in the build quality too - but at the £899 of which you speak its a good deal...:)

How many scarts do you want then !?

Well, 4 scarts would be nice - Video, DVD, SAT, Spare - but I would take 3!

At £899 its not a bargain if the tube goes after 2 years! :eek:

I have had a 29" SONY Trinitron for 12 years and its superb - but the latest widescreen SONYs are crap! :( (Reliability wise)

If you get it Pete, which I doubt because they'll have all gone by the time you finish um-ing and ar-ing, spend some of the money you saved on an automatic scart switch then you can plug all your toys in via that.

Strange that a Sony Staff Shop would keep a stock on discounted Philips TV's?

I wonder why that would be then?

I have a 4 into 1 scart block, but if you have 2 items turned on that plug into it then the TV sees both of them with the concluding terrible pictur .... how does an automatic scart switch avoid that?

I think some of the more expensive ones use digital switching and have noise/signal supressors so that each scart signal doesn't interfere (well as little as possible) with any other. I believe you also get a remote as well so you can manually switch, but if you turn a device on, it will automatically use the new feed (I think). I looked into it a while back as I only have one fully switched scart on my TV and wanted everything through that. Ended up plumping for a cheap manual switch which seems OK, just need to get up every time I want to change device.

The block I have has manual buttons so it will only send the signal from the selected device so the TV will only see one signal. Quite cheap at about 10-15 quid, but like I said, has it's drawbacks in that you have to get out of your comfy chair to change the switch :(

They do an auto one in Argos, but I think it only takes three inputs :(

Youve got a telly with only one scart on it. Has it got push buttons for changing channels as well. And be careful you dont trip over the remote control lead as well if youve got one:D

Eh? no I have 2 Scarts!!

Yes, the wired remote control is better than those new fangled ones as the other OAPs in the home can walk between me and the TV - BUT - I can still control it! (have you any idea how long it takes an OAP to walk 2 metres!!)

Where is this offer btw Pete & what sort of guarantee do you get? If it's only 1 years then you can extend it to 3 years at a cost of about £200 from most electrical/tv shops or I heard if you buy with a Barclays Card they extend from 1 year to 3 years on any purchase over £500?

Forgot to mention I've had a 32" Philips Widescreen (not sure on the model :confused: ) for about 3 years and have had problems with the picture & built in DVD player so it's going back :eek:

From what I've read there are less reliability problems with the Toshiba so I think thats the one I'm gonna go for ;)

For it to be equivalent it would have to be 36", Have PixelPlus, 100Hz and £899 and not be seconds (which are the ones you can get!) :rolleyes:

I know the "C" at the end of the model number stands for Cabinet...strange...didn't see the "05" pop up though. Maybe it's an old stock model?

(as an aside the sony near me used to use an inflatable warehouse like a big igloo
about 10 years back it blew away in some storms
tvs all over the place lol)

I don't want a Sony, my friends mum works at Sony in Thatcham, Berkshire and can get all stock at those knock-down prices.

Pixel-Plus, apparently is pretty good - not a gimmick, but a processing system

just find sony pictures better than most is all-then again my eyes are shot from too much time spent on a microscope inspecting :)
if you know someone at the factory then reliability shouldnt be an issue
cos sony used to be pretty good even with out of warranty issues as long as you deal direct with them-not through comet etc.
still if you prefer the phillips good luck and happy shopping
wouldnt want to try and force my veiws on another person :D
