Have I been lucky so far?

St Petersburg - lived there for 3 mths, loved it, beautiful if rickety.
Long boat trip St Pete - Moscow I've never done but apparently it's recommended.
Moscow - lived there for 2 yrs during the wild 90s. Like London or NY, it's a biiiig city.
Hong Kong - 4 hectic days April 97 before the handover to see the island and Territories. Nice, but I don't feel I need to go back.
Great Wall of China - one day out of Beijing, an hour taxi ride, see it - yeah, pretty impressive - don't need to go back. Seems there's 2 choices - the restored parts near Beijing, which are v.touristy, or the crumbling (and less impressive?) parts further away.
New Zealand - 2 week car tour at Christmas 96 with a Kiwi friend in a Fiat X1/9. Loved it, I'd move out there if it wasn't so far away from everything else.
Thailand - honeymoon a couple of years ago for 3 weeks. Loved it, want to return.

Mungo 12 January 2005 01:09 PM

Angkor Wat - Cambodia
Petra - Jordan
Pyramids - Egypt
Cave temples at Ajanta and Ellora - India
Galapagos Islands - Ecuador
Ha Long Bay - Vietnam
Kyoto - Japan
Beijing
Canadian Rockies
Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, etc
St Petersburg
Tonga/Fiji
New York
Northern Thailand and Laos
Argentina
Most of Southern Africa - Namibia, Botswana, Malawi

That should do for starters!!

Oh, and Zimbabwe when Mugabe finally falls from power.

Senior_AP 12 January 2005 01:11 PM

I think perhaps we should change the name of this thread to:

"Who is the best at Geography and can impress others with a list of random places".

;)

Brendan Hughes 12 January 2005 03:29 PM

Just talking at lunchtime, reminded me - Morocco. Tried twice, couldn't get a visa for the wife

ozzy 12 January 2005 03:33 PM

Summit of Mont Blanc - happening in the summer, so it's a start
North or South pole
Summit of Everest, never mind the Base Camp. problem with that is it's hugely expensive.

completely unrealistic ...

Space
The moon

Nat 12 January 2005 03:37 PM

Low earth Orbit.

Drunken Bungle Whore 12 January 2005 03:42 PM

Want to see the Himalayas - and Everest - though not interested in Base Camp - would be too p1ssed off at the wreckage everyone's left there turning into a dump!

Grand Canyon - want to go down it on a donkey and through it on a raft - have wanted to do this ever since I can remember. One day maybe.... :D

ozzy 12 January 2005 03:53 PM

Grand Canyon - want to go down it on a donkey
Like in Superman II? :D:D

Stefan

messiah 12 January 2005 04:05 PM

messiah 12 January 2005 04:07 PM

Watched Michael Palin's Full Circle a while back when it was repeated - some fantastic scenery in China - the name of the place eludes me but it's not there anymore as it was flooded to for a reservoir.

Brendan Hughes 12 January 2005 04:10 PM

3 Gorges?

messiah 12 January 2005 04:34 PM
