Setting up a Proxy Server

I'm trying to set up a Proxy server on my pc with some software I found on the net. I seem to be having a few troubles. It seems setup correct but when I go to any sites I get an error message.
Anyone got any tips or any proxy software they can reccomend that they've used and had success with?

Thanks

I got squid up and running on the linux box at work without too much trouble. Apart from that, never used any other proxy.

John.

Haven't found any decent ones for windows other than M$'s offering ISA. Certainly not any free software off the net.

Used squid loads of times on linux distributions. Fairly simple to setup, but depends how well you know Linux.

Squid is available for Win32, not tried it though. You could also try Apache with mod_proxy, I've not tried that on Win32 either.

I had major grief with Apache on Win32 with the mod_proxy. That was a long time ago, so it's worth checking out.

Steve,

Is the squid a proper port or is it than unix shell?

There is an entry on just that in the Squid FAQ, I just had a look. There is a native version, or you can compile the distributed source along with Cygwin/MinGW.

Thanks for your help people.
I have the proxy working now. But I can only find one server that is working. Does anyone know where I can get a good working list of servers.

Anyone?

Thanks

Are you setting up a local proxy server to allow several PCs or devices to connect to a single I.net connection from your home. Or our you trying to connect to an external I.net proxy server for the purpose of anonymous browsing or similar?
