bought this last year. not really fair as the coupe had 350 odd BHP while the 22b is 276 and the evo about the same. you would expect the coupe to win. not making excuses but apples and oranges, it has to be like for like.

Well, coupe is actually 321bhp isnt it? (or maybe nearer 300bhp) Or was it modded? On a Tiff video, he claims that the 22b has alot more than the quoted 280bhp. "If you floor it, you can feel alot more", (or something like that). Is this true? He quotes something like 350bhp?

nah m8, 22b is quoted at 276 according to japanese "gentlemans agreement" that it would be no more, but i think you may me right closer to 300 odds but no where near 350. don't get me wrong coupe is a lovely car, fookin fast as well, but just not my cup of tea. i would say it would be fun in the wet though :D

The 22B in the video was owned at that time by a friend of mine, Paul Gee on here, although he wasn't driving it on the video.
It was modified by Ralliart (yes the Mitsibushi people) and was about 340BHP.

The drag race was run several times with the 22B winning each time.

For the video, the 22B driver was instructed to allow the M3 Coupe to win.!!!

Perhaps it was to make it more realistic, in that perhaps a STD 22B would lose against a STD M3 Coupe.

Who knows.

The moral of the story never believe anything anyone ever tells you, (perhaps I'm lying) and only believe 50% of what you see with your own eyes.

Paul brought the famous 22B (reg S531 TDB) to Northern Meets 3,4,5 and 6, organised by me.
Boomer used to have pics of Northern Meet 3 on his web site showing the car, but last time I looked at the site was no longer working.

I have also driven the car, and it was very quick.

Paul has since sold the car and replaced it with a STi S202, wich has since been sold as well.

but why let the M3 win???

If the supposedly std 22B (It wasn't std it was 340BHP) was seen beating the std M3 Coupe, then it would not be representative of the real world scenario of two std cars.
So perhaps it was fair.
It would have been better if they had been able to use a std 22B.

A point to remember though, is manufactures cannot make claims for their products that cannot be proven.

They would be in breach of advertising code.

BUT any magazine/TV programme can publish anything they see fit, regarding THEIR opinion/test of one product versus another.

They are not endorsing or advertising the said product, so do not have to comply with advertising rules.

Many years ago I attended a pseudo drag race at Burtonwood services near Warrington.
The event was then written about in Custom Car ( a link house publication, like CCC, and Hot Car).

The article had no similarity whatsoever with the actual event.
Me, my friend and his brother all took turns using his 135BHP Twin Cam Escort, and were only beaten by 2 cars.
We never even got mentioned.

I wrote to the Steven Myatt, the features editor of the magazine, who in his reply admitted that he wasn't actually there, but typed up the article from notes passed to him via a Dennis Foy, who attended.

I still have the letter he sent me, now going a nice shade of yellow, and it was typed with a typwriter, not a PC.
That really shows my age doesn't it.

The magazine article rattled on about Dave Lee Travises ex Dodge Super Bee, and how fast it went.
It was complete and utter fabrication, but it was what the buyers of the magazine wanted to hear.
So it must be true?

This is the copy of the letter sent to me by Custom Car about 25 years ago.
It confirms that they printed articles without veryfying the authenticity of them.
Suprise suprise.
I tend to distrust all magazine reports now, as they may well have ulterior motives for saying what they do.

The videos and magazines are only a waste of money if they don't entertain you.

As far as the publishers are concerned the ONLY purpose for their existance is to MAKE MONEY.

And they do that by providing what the customer (you) want.

If you want to read about how one model wupped another competitors model in their 'test' you buy the magazine as if to prove your own beliefs.

If you own car 'A' and the mag says it beat car 'B', you might buy it.
Then if you are anything like one individual I unfortunately have to work with, you go in to work and tell anyone who will listen to your opinion (is it not the opinion of the articles editor?) on which car/ home stereo system/PC/lawnmower etc etc is the best.

My collegue can give me a breakdown on every fast car ever produced, and I mean every car.
Which is fastest accelerating/top speed/best handling etc etc and how they all would beat my car in (quote) 'the real world'.

He is truly a mine if useless information based on other peoples comments.
He has a Renualt Megane 1.4, and yet can talk knowledgably on Aston Martin DB9's weak points!!! Or so he thinks.

The companies are set up employing people as a business.
The people employed may have a passing interest in the content, BUT they exist only as long as they can make a profit.
Which is fair enough, so long as when you view the video/read the magazine you don't take it all as FACT.

Because quite often it is purely somebodies opinion.
And you can form those yourself for free.

They are not created as reference material, although a large proportion of the public see them as such.

In the Sun page 3 today there is a picture of Charlotte Church dressed in lingerie.

Except it ISN'T Charlotte Church.

When you stop looking at the picture of womanly beauty, and bother to read the words, they say 'our artists have shown how she might look'.

Its all about giving the customer what they want.
And I have to admit, it definately floated my boat this morning, worth 50p of anyones money.
So definately not a waste of money.
Completely false/untrue/fantasy/opinion, but still worth a look.
