New BMW 5 series!! Where's the quality gone ?
 

A guy who I work with has just got a 54 reg BMW 5 series. I have heard that the quality of BMW's is not as good as it used to be and certainly this is being borne out by his experience. One of his major gripes is a horrible creaking sound coming from around both front doors when pulling away and driving at low speed. The dealer reckons its coming from the rubber seals around the doors but after attempting to fix the problem 3 times, has actually made the noise worse :eek2:

Has anyone got any ideas....
a) What might be causing this horrible noise
b) What approach might work in fixing it

His problem (although not serious in nature) is seriously reducing his enjoyment of what should be a good car.

Any ideas/poss solutions gratefully received.

The old shape 5 used to do that too. :D

Needed new door hinges (pins/pivot worn allowing doors to move when closed) the last time I encountered it.

Then there was the centre console rattling. Door trims creaking. Headlamps dimming when you braked. The rear window with a mind of its own. The 50mph wheel wobble. The autobox sticking in 4th gear on the motorway. The LED dash going loopy. The nikasil bores......

Nothings changed! :p


Still find it far superior to most other comparable cars though ;)
