octane boosters
Hi all
Just wondering where i can pick up a decent octane booster and how much they're riding for. also, if i get one fitted, can i use regular unleaded or shall i stick with optimax plus the booster? have a turbo 2000 pending a ecu remap and conversion. thanks Ameet |
NF Octane booster is probably the best around at the moment. You dont 'fit' it, you add so much of it to your petrol tank each time you fill up. Roger Clark Motorsport sell it, amongst others.
other than your pending upgrade, is the car standard? coz if it is you wont need octane booster. try doing a search for info, coz i`m goin for some food! :D |
octane boosters are normally liquids that you add to the fuel when you fill up. Best is NF (nitrous formula), which is about 13 quid a bottle and one bottle does between 1 and 6 tank fulls. Best to use Optimax as well.
With a UK turbo you don't need the OB. If you have a remap then get it mapped for optimax and then you still won't need the octane booster (edited to say beaten to the punch) |
the onlyu octane boosters I know of are things you put in the tank when filling up.
NF octane is generally considerd the best but is expensive and hard to get. I usually get Millers octane booster from Scoobymania 10 bottles for £24.40. http://www.scoobymania.co.uk/product_details.asp?id=10 I genreally put 1 bottle per fillup in so it would do 10 tanks You should be ok running unleaded on a uk car, as thats what its been maped for at the factory. Theres no harm in continuing to use Optimax on a uk car just a bit more pennys per tank. |

reason i said fitted was because i have this banzai jap car magazine and they're selling this booster bar which fots into the pipes..costs about £60 or something.

the jury`s still out on that booster bar thing, scooby magazine tried it and didn`t see any difference. Generally, if people are going crackers for something on scoobynet, then it`ll be good, and i haven`t seen anyone going nuts about this booster thing on here yet

Krade, NF is alot easier to get hold of now (in my experience), and, if you get 6 tankfulls per bottle of NF, it`ll work out cheaper than Millers (and Millers was sh!te compared to NF in my car)

I've never had any probs with millers tbh, atleast didnt notice any diff between the two, its easy just to dump the whole bottle of millers in rather than mesuring out 55ml per tank. Also Im pretty sure that there are several diff types of NF octane boost and they all cost around £15 each. |

Forgot about the different types of NF, Ameet, NF Race is the most commonly used, thats the one you can get 5/6 tankfulls per bottle out of, think i paid £13 per bottle last time from RCMS (but i bought a few)

whats the craic - it's only going to boost the octane rating of a tankfull from 97 to something like 97.2
(ie a two point increase doesn't mean 97 to 99 it means 97 to 97.2) boy that 0.2 is going to make ALL the difference ... |

I apologise for my sweeping comments - generally the stuff you can buy off the shelf at your local factors or Halfordesque type establishment are of the ilk that I alluded to. Reading the reviews of the NF product suggests its quite a specialist product. Knock resistance isn't the biggest factor in how much power you can get from fuel though - that's down to it's specific Oxygen content - but that's not what the thread is about so I'll get my coat ... |
Does octane booster last well in storage or does it go 'off' after a while?
Having found myself with a bad tankful of fuel and a sparkly Knocklink to show for it, I figure it would do no harm to keep a bottle in the boot and a few in stock - but only if it'll last until it's needed. Any ideas? |
