Translating a German washing machine.......
 

I've had the lovely job of translating the meaning of the functions and controls on a german washing machine (what a thing to do on boxing day ;) ), so at least we know what programme and function is what is what. Done nearly all of it except for one washing program:

The washing program is labelled as "Pflegeleicht" Translated loosely using on-line translators comes up with "Wash and Wear"

Which tells me nothing of what it does. Anyone have a clue on what it means and what its for (synthetics, cottons etc )??

Sounds like a feature when the man about the house has to use it (me) ;)

Might be a case of try it and see, I'm not entirely sure the thing works right - seems to take forever to go through a normal coloured wash cycle (Buntwäsche)!

I think it means easy iron/no iron, so wash and wear without ironing - apparently it does some trick that stops your cloths getting wrinkly.


IMHO it sounds like complete sh1te. Doesn't work on ours

....One for Wurzel, Cheeseboy or BMWhere, I think.......

You should try contacting the machine manufacturer for English instructions. I got a Bosch machine and emailed bosch UK and they sent me the English instructions in the return post.

...I then had to get my mum to translate them into men speak so I could actually use the thing ;)

Oh, now I'm Really confused...As I thought "Feinwasche" was for delicates!

Washing machine is made by Gorenje (model WA1422), I've found the website, but I suspect it maybe a German market model. So finding the UK equivelent may require some guesswork ;)

Now, so far, I've translated 90% of it: that being:

Koch = hot! (Koch / Buntwäsche = Hot wash for coloureds)
Buntwäsche = multicoloured laundry (coloureds)
Kurz = Briefly = Quick (Buntwäsche Kurz = quick wash for coloureds)
Spülen = Rinse
Weichspülen = Soft-Rinse (softener/conditioner)
Schleudern = centrifuges = Spin
Pflegeleicht = Wash and Wear
Feinwasche = Fine wash = Delicates
Pumpen = Pump
Wolle = Wool
Wassermenger = Water Level
Temperatur = Temperature


So either I have mis-translated "Feinwasche"

or Pflegeleicht means somthing else?

Pflegeleicht is definately delicates! I've never come across Feinwasche before, but would also translate it as delicates. Looking on your panel though, I would guess Fienwasche is for cold-40C delicates and and Pflegeleicht is is 40-60C. I would also take the "I" and "II" after the Pflegeleicht to indicate the number of bars unter the temperature symbol, so moving clockwise from the stop position indicated in your picture, the wash cycles get gentler.

The rest of your translations seem ok. "Kurzschleudern" is short spin (Kurz=short)

Basically, your main washes are the top right, gentle washes bottom and left and extra functions top left.

"I" and "II" is definetly for main wash (II) and pre-wash (I) though.

All seems to make sense now.
