Anybody know where Saab cars are built?
Does anybody know? Are they all built in Sweden, or are there factories around the world? The more detailed the breakdown, the better please! Cheers.

Thanks for that. So, what's actually made in Japan, do we know?

So, in answer to your question, Saab's are still all built in Sweden. |
I think it depends on the model Tel. IIRC the convertibles used to be made at a plant in Finland, but the bulk of the range are made in the Trollhaettan plant. The Trollhaettan factory currently produces 120 000 cars per year, with 5 600 employees including 3 400 production staff, so that would seem to be the bulk of their production.

Just found this as well:
November 25, 2003 New York - Saab has announced its first all-wheel-drive SUV, the 9-7X, with a choice of two engines. It will have its world debut at the New York auto show in April, 2004 and reach North American markets – for which it is being designed - a year later. "We are pleased to continue to expand our product line in the very important North American market," said Peter Augustsson, president and CEO of Saab Automobile. "We are exceeding our commitment to introduce one new vehicle or concept each year for five years with the Saab 9-X and 9-3X concepts, the award-winning Saab 9-3 sport sedan and convertible, the 9-3 Sport hatch concept and the dynamic new 9-2X." He believed the 9-7X would be a perfect addition to Saab's range. "It will allow us to join the growing North American mid-luxury SUV market, one of the fastest-growing segments, with a dynamic premium vehicle." The 9-7X will be built at GM's Moraine assembly plant in Ohio from early 2005. |

Tel, would the stuff that SAAB are doing in conjunction with Subaru be being carried out in Japan? |
|
Thanks, Tav - that's getting me close. Can we say for SURE though, that 50%+ of Saab's cars are built in Sweden, at the moment?

"Made by Trolls in Trollhatten"
I think the Finnish plant is the one that TWR and Volvo used to own? |
Safe to say, I reckon. The produce 120k units at the Trollhaettan plant, annual unit sales 131,706 in 2003. Saab (US) shifted 47914 units on top of that.
