Short term fix for wheel rubbing?
 

I tow a caravan once a month for motorsport purposes and the problem is with my MY98 wagon. Only when im towing it rubs a lot at the back, due to lowered suspension.

Can anyone recommend a fix, such as the Splitfire sport spring adjuster? Only to use for towing, please note. Ive sacraficed my 18's already for 17's and dont want to go further down to 16's!!!!

Have you got too much nose weight from the caravan on the car? The way to tell is if you load the boot with luggage and heavy stuff and it doesn't rub, and you find it hard to lift the caravan hitch to hook it on.

If you get the weight distribution in the caravan right, that should help - just move stuff from in front of the axle to behind it until you've got it right.

No, it does rub also with passengers in the back, which is also very rare. I always pack the caravan up properly and thats usually empty!!! You reckon those things from demon tweeks would do the trick? What do they actually do?

In that case it's a simple matter of physics and geometry, I'm afraid. Your bump stops are too high, so the suspension can rise enough to rub, and your spring rate is too low (your springs aren't stiff enough) so that the suspension travels full range over most bumps rather than just the most extreme ones.

I'd look at one or more of the following:

1) New bump stops
2) Stiffer suspension
3) Raising the suspension (I know, I know...)

Whatever you do, don't make the caravan tail heavy - that would have the potential to give you one hell of a nasty accident...

You need to check with someone who knows MY98 scooby wagons, I'm afraid. Sorry, but mine is a blobeye - I'm just not familiar with the classics :(

The principle is sound, though - the ability to change the ride height to get more 'capacity' out of the fixed spring rate.

where does it catch?

camber bolts may be an option if its only slight rubbing

i brought the splitfire`s for my MY00 wagon and took them back as they were miles to small for the springs ! the gaps in each coil are VERY large and i would have needed god knows how many spring adjusters just to fill the spring gaps ! good luck m8

Could a bigger set of bumpstops cure it? Would this stop the suspension reaching maximum point and therefore rubbing?
