its only gonna be a cheap runabout till i get my next subura, was wondering what mpg i will get out of a tank and how far a tank will take me? also what issues should i look at when looking to buy the pug?

If you find yourself needing any parts give me a call as I'm breaking a V6 406.

borich 22 December 2004 01:49 AM

is the v6 406 interior leather?

Borich

LG John 22 December 2004 02:50 AM

Yeah its got the cream leather with electric seats, etc, etc. Looks classier than the dull grey leather I have in my blue v6

borich 22 December 2004 10:46 AM

would all that be able to be fitted into my pug 406 which im off to pick up now?

you should get around 40mpg, around 600 miles a tank.

One of the main points to look out for is that the speedo/tacho both work 100%.
I bought one & the speedo only works for the first 7 or 8 miles then just stops, after doing some research it seems to be a very common problem and the only known cure is to replace the whole dash pod but seen as this is a very common problem they're like gold dust to find secondhand & Peugeot dealers charge a fortune (£600 apparently!)

I'd make sure you drive the car for a good few miles before letting any money change hands as the mileage is about the mileage they seem to go too! When I bought mine I took it for a 5 mile drive and everything worked fine, I only found out later on a longer journey :(

I drive 70 miles per day (per multimap) on quite twisty A roads and manage to get 41-42 mpg (rough estimate as I can't see exactly how many miles I do as the mileometer doesn't work LOL)

Yes I would imagine it could all be fitted to another 406. Anyone buying the interior is welcome to all the bits and bobs required along with it i.e. controllers for the electrics, doorcards, colour coded glovebox lid, etc. I'd suggest that you investigate the viability of switching the interiors before getting too excited because I wouldn't have a clue how to do it!

got my pug 406 diesel and im well impressed with the running costs done 80 miles and the fuel guage ain't even moved! but the interior is covered in fag burns and stinks of fags! so im gonna rip it out and replace it with a newer inteiror. wheres the best place to find out if a leather interior will fit the car and how much should i been looking to pay for one? wanna replace the door cars as well as the seats

The interior on my car is in good condition with only the front seats showing a little wear and a small tare (about 2cm long) near the electical controls on the driver side - I've seen a few 406s with a similar tare in the same place, I wonder what causes it?! John Banks had the car before me and it doesn't seem to have been smoked in or mistreated so isn't grubby, etc.

The electrics all work fine but the heated seats don't as the heating pads are buggered. This is very common and its several hundred for new pads. Both my V6s have heated seats neither work. That said, I remember from my dads 406 that they are hardly worth it anyway as they don't get that hot - nothing like as warm as Audi or BMW heated seats!

It had the tear when I got it as well Kenny, the dealer put something that looked beige and sticky on to "fix" it which lasted a few days after my average weight bottom had been sitting on it. The seats used to work, but latterly perhaps the heating was a little one sided. Have you stripped the engine yet to see what failed?

LG John 24 December 2004 04:37 PM

Got it back at the car port but its too baltic to be sticking my head anywhere near an engine. Might see if I can get the boys round for a stripping (oh-er) session soon :)

Look out for the conrod watchers  ;)

LG John 24 December 2004 04:57 PM

Eh? What is a conrod watcher? And more to the point what did you do to it? ;)
