10 min job changing the bulb.....Doh
I love MK IV Golfs. If you haven't got a hand the size of Jeremy Beadle its a bumper off job......Nice

Cheer up, I thought you were posting a crash picture for minute
Like your monoblock :D Be happy you're not spending a fortune on fuel and depreciation/servicing like you would if not running that nice Golf :) |
Bloody hell mate .........I have done it before and didnt have to do that. Hell of a job
Mind you didnt I hear a story once about it being a body off job to change the battery in an Elise? |
It's not a body off job to do an Elise battery...granted it's a pain in the rectum but that's cos it's tucked underneath loads of stuff.
Having to take off the bumper is very extreme, although all manufacturers seem to be making easy jobs a dealer only job, wonder why???? |
It's a joke and severely pisses me off that you have to go to such lengths to change a bulb. I spent hours trying to change the bulbs on my mother's MKIV.
|
Took 1.5 hours all in. And 15 mins of that was trying first with the bumper on! Gave up after I managed to get one side half done, but couldn't see to get the clip holding the bulb in, back in place....
It even says in the handbook that bulb changes should only be done by the stealer...Talk about taking the p1ss. |

I've managed to do the drivers side with them in place. You just have to swear alot and scream at the bloody clip 'till it pops in with pure fluke, LOL
|
I have done drivers side too and although it was a pain I still managed it and im a techno fxxk wit ........ :D

How much would a VW dealer charge for replacing a front bulb?!!

Read on the MK IV web page about £100....Nice work if you can get it.
Just about the see what the new Phillips Vision Plus are like. The VW OEM were the worst bulbs I have ever had. And yes I even owned a 98 wagon before! |
Vision Plus bulbs do make a difference....
We fitted them to our MY98 A4 as the standard bulbs were poo, the road was much brighter with the Philips Bulbs fitted. Cheers, Grant |
T reg Xantia, front foglight bulb, bumper off job, dealer price £90+VAT + parts!
Alcazar:mad: |

Just bought some vision plus for my Golf anniversary, I could not work out how to change them without dismantling the front of the car, what crap design, good German engineering not

Our local VW dealer puts the bulbs in for nothing if you buy from them. Our Golf had one fitted last week and it was £7 and took about 5 mins. :D

Not in Warwick, Chris! :D
Cue an influx of MKIV drivers with a headlight bulb out to Spirit Volkswagen! ;) Matt |

Dracoro,
I wish I knew! It's my wifes' car and she took it to the dealership! Matt |
To be fair looking at the pic in the 1st post, I don't recall a water tank being behind the OS headlight in the 1.8 turbo GTI that I changed a bulb on.
|
The "body off" job to change the battery on a lotus, it's true, but not on an Elise, that is when you own a "340R". Nice job. But apparently even though Lotus state that, I've heard of people doing it with removing the body!
|
Did the main beams in my Octy, pain in the ar5e as they are xenon dppied beams. Need to remove the whole headlamp unit from the car to be able to get at the back of the light unit :(
Half an hour to change 2 bulbs  Nice and simple by the roadside task then. |
