Which part of the exhaust to de-cat?

Im not planning a full De-cat yet because of my age and insurance but I will declare all mods to insurance co.

is it better to de-cat the centre section or de-cat the downpipe?

eg:
Standard downpipe - de-cat centre - back box

or

De-cat downpipe - standard centre - back box

Ray:
I assume your car is a classic shape.
Decat the whole system BUT keep the old exhaust as you WILL need it to get the car through the 'new' MoT.
Make sure you do declare the change as the Ins Co will check it in case of a claim, particularly if they send an Inspector out to the car.

The mod will brighten the cars response from the engine, and it is a good mod to do.
Bugger of a job mind if the system has not been off before.

back box and centre will probably get you the most gains according to hayward and scott.

http://www.haywardandscott.co.uk/subaru/index.htm

this also has the benefit of getting rid of the twin pea shooters and gaining a more throaty burble into the process.

i would do the downpipe last as the gains from this would be marginal with the restrictive back box still in place.

i was assuming that you were changing the backbox anyway and just wondering which 1 other pipe to change.

Out of the 2 options you have asked about the second one "De-cat downpipe - standard centre - back box" will give by far the bigger gains.

was not expecting mixed replies.
its a classic and im also changing the backbox

just decat the lot you fag.

if you phone the insurance and say "i changed the pea shooter and the centre cat" they will hammer you for a decat anyhow.

if you are going to do the job then do it properly :p

I started by just doing the downpipe on my MY00, however the centre de-cat soon followed, after all it was only £60 for the centre de-cat brand new!

My insurance company didn't charge any more for having the centre de-cat, as it was already marked as an after market exhaust on my policy.

ok. downpipe might be coming
