Long Way Round
Got the lot as a DVD for dad's Xmas present (He's a biker), and noticed the case wasn't sealed... ;)
We'd already seen the first episode taped by a friend for us, but don't have SKY ourselves and missed the rest. So we took the opportunity to watch all the episodes before we wrapped his present! WOW! Probably the best thing I've seen this year. What a fantastic adventure and brilliant film-making. Mind you, I can't believe they actually chose Claudio to do their filming with them!?! Talk about a Jinx! :o Really heartwarming stuff. :D Squizz. |
Agree, one of the best programmes on TV this year.. IMO...
The book makes for a great read... |
I watched it all, fantastic viewing. I liked the warts and all approach.
Funny how they spent several weeks concentrating on the trip from London to the Pacific coast of Russia, then hurredly had all of the US and Canad in one episode! Were they making a statement, or did they realise that after all they had been thru, the US was just dullsville really. I didn't know it was available on DVD, so that may well have to be purchase. Geezer |
yes the ending did seem rushed but then i guess thousands of miles of highway isn't much comapred to the road of bones.
overall an excellent series tho. thought it was much better than palins latest effort. |
I too was a little disappointed by the amount of time spent showing Alaska/Canada/Main USA. :(
Also disappointing was the way they glossed over their trip through western Europe, too. Odd how in the last episode they were reminiscing about their visit to the Nurburgring (showed tiny clip) which we didn't see at all earlier! But those are trivial gripes. We're going to enjoy the DVD extras tonight! :D |

The book makes for a great read... I think the reason that they glossed over Western Europe & North America for the series, rightly IMO, is because the Eastern Europe stuff WAS the story. You can see travel programmes about the rest 24/7 on satellite/cable TV |

That's true... Good point.
Nice Ruski-military haircut too... ;) Well, I'm going to sit down and watch the extras whilst eating a nice big bowl of b*ll*ck soup tonight. LOL! |

I thought the time with those Russian mafiosi was just hysterical - bloody guns being waved everywhere and this right after they'd be warned to avoid them!! Classsic
and that part when Charley walked up to that horseman in the middle of nowhere to say hello - I swear I thought he was going to pull a gun out and shoot him on the spot!!! Great, great program... btw - thanks all I now know what I want my father in-law to buy me for Christmas :) |
I'm reading the book at the moment, I never read books, but, having seen the series (by chance!!) I had to get the book, I have never watched a television programme that made me wanty to do something silly like that, I still don't believe just how they got through all those rivers in Russia??

You're not wrong RON - What about that truck driver who drove in, got a bit stuck, then reversed out... Incredible!
|
I've just bought the dvd after seeing a few episodes on Sky travel, I would never of normally watched it but just found it by chance. It looked like an amazing experience.
I dont think I'd of slept in a tent knowing there were bears around! |
Just got the DVD and its fantastic, best thing on TV this year.
Had a lump in my throat at the kids in the orphanage:cry: So good that I'm going to buy the book now:D:D:D |
Just starting on Sky Mix, episode 1 for those that missed it.
|
Thanks to you all I have now got the book and the DVD - quick suggestion to my father in-law for a Christmas present... nice one folks! :)
|
Got the David for Xmas, just amazing. The whole family just sat and watched it. Best thing I've ever seen, agree about the US but then it was pretty ordinary, just riding on metalled roads I suppose.
If you havent got it, get it, dont need to be a biker ............. |
