Got my Z M Coupe!!!!!!

I finally found the right car, 34k miles, S54 engine (Current M3 engine) and most importantly a BMW warranty.

All i can say is wow, as some of you know i used to have an 03Sti PPP, but this car is a total beast. It has relentless speed, i did not think cars came much faster than my Scooby, but boy was i wrong. My friends 550 does 1/4 mile in 12.6 and this little beast does it in 12.65. If you ever get a chance to go in one of these i highly recommend you do. Puts to shame my friends M3.

Here are some pics.

How much if you dont mind me asking???

imi 19 December 2004 02:49 PM

HMM....SUPRA VS M COUPE.......VERY TOUGH DECISION......

THAT LOOKS AWESOME

16vmarc 19 December 2004 02:49 PM

God i love these!!!!

Never see em on the road either!

churchwa 19 December 2004 02:51 PM

The 2 different cars command very different prices. Both cars are superb, but the S54 comes with much needed traction control and a newer engine (Only 4bhp change though 321 -325bhp) The other big factor is that all the S54's still have warranty's and hence cost more. You couls also buy froma dealer but Hexagon have bought them all and charge silly prices.

S50 = £18k-£23k

S54 = £25k-£30k

It is a sellers market with the S54's, i just got lucky becasue i only know of one other S54 for sale and that is up at £33k!!!

neilsti 19 December 2004 02:54 PM

thats tidy, i would have one myself but need the room in my sti, five speed no tractoin control enjoy:)

churchwa 19 December 2004 03:12 PM

Yeah, you must have gone in an S50, not am S54.

willy 19 December 2004 03:18 PM

A well sorted N/a engine is a joy to drive.
They are little beasts and handle so well as they are coupes.
The perfect chassis for that M engine.

I`m jealous now.

Lovely cars and different then your run of the mill stuff ..I havent found them to be that quick ina striaght line though, on track I mean.

churchwa 19 December 2004 09:52 PM

Yes i did have a Mustang but i got shot of it about 3 weeks ago, beautiful car but was too much like hard work living with it.

Gutmann, i am surprised you have not found then that quick in a straight line, i find it mind blowingly quick.

Much faster in a line than my STi PPP, i find myself doing illegal speeds all too quickly.

Gutmann pug 19 December 2004 10:01 PM

I love them Churchwa. You wouldnt believe how many of them are at the nurburgring every weekend.

Much faster than your sti ppp in a straight line? .... maybe the ones i have played with were off cam or something .. Something very spitfire aeroplane about them but cool as txts all the same.

The guy on the top gear ring report hadda blue one which he sadly crashed, real nice fella too, glad he was ok.

Dieseldog 19 December 2004 11:45 PM

I used to have an S54, and got up to silly speeds on a stretch of the the A322 dual carriageway, followed by a classic 5 door Sub (green met, about six months ago - anyone here?). There was negligilble difference tbh. Lovely car though.

You could buy these for a bargain 4 years ago before they appeared on Top Gear and then the bandwagon started rolling. Prior to then they had received mixed reviews in road tests e.g. Autocar

In June 2000 I looked at a 99T with a few extras and 15 k on the clock for £25k from Sytners. Couple of years later and the prices actually went up.

You can pick them up for about 15k but your looking at leggy cars with many many owners.

They tend to change hands v frequently as alot of owners dont get on with them.

I have to say, from everything i have read and experienced nothing in the above statement is true, except for maybe the price. 4 years ago they were still being made, in actual fact the S54 version had not even come out at that point. The reason prices have stayed high is becasue so few of the cars are actually on the road, especially the S54.

Have a look at EVO Mag, Car Mag and Top Gear who all think they are one of the all time great cars.

As for changing hads, i really don’t see that happening at all. Take a look at http://www.z3mcoupe.com for some more informed opinions.

It is logically faster than my old STi because it is lighter, has more power and rear wheel drive. (less tranny loss)

Admittedly grip from standstill might not be as good due to lack of 4WD.

Gutmann pug 20 December 2004 11:00 AM

They are a strange looking animal but for some reason I really like them. Seen a couple of real hardcore ones with proper track preparation and they look real menacing.

Fair play to you matey.

sonu 20 December 2004 02:22 PM

Had my //M for nearly 5 years now, so not really changing hands often :)
Had a modded Scoob for nearly 6 years.

The //M is faster in a straight line then most Scoobs, but does'nt feel it as it's so refined. I think the lap record is 8min 22 secs around the Ring, so not too bad.

Ultimately the //M is a handful, esp the S50 and needs real skill to drive quickly. If you see them going slowly around a track it's probably because the drivers don't have the balls to drive them quickly :)

scoobyboy1 20 December 2004 04:08 PM

Best thing is you dont see many Z3 M about, where as the M3 you see them everywhere.

Top motor :)

wilf 20 December 2004 06:04 PM

Sorry wasnt running them down just my experience having looked seriously at buying on 3 occasions. I looked at quite a few M Coupes with multi owners and contacts in the trade have confirmed this view.

Re the road tests - if you look for original mag tests were luke warm - back in 2000 they were a steal as most people hadnt woken up to what a decent motor they were for the money.

Scoob+Bike=Fun 20 December 2004 11:43 PM

would love one myself, great buy! I still remember seeing clarkson spanking one, what an animal!

RRH 21 December 2004 11:03 AM

I drove an S50 when they first came out. Good thing they have big side windows as you need them to steer ;)

Reminded me of a legends race car- totally loopy.

I did find it fairly hard to 'press on' though, which is where the Impreza excels itself.

Every time you hit the loud pedal to go forwards, it responds immediately, but always seems to say 'ok we'll go forwards, but I'll just need to go sideways for about half an hour first' ;)

One of the most fun cars I've ever driven though :D:D:D

churchwa 21 December 2004 12:25 PM

I must say, the traction conrol was one of the main reasons i wanted the S54 it makes it much easier to user normally.
