05 WRX SL PPP

Alright Guys,

Had my 05 wrx ppp'd yesterday. If you own an 05 wrx, and are prepared to pay a little bit on your insurance, and want to keep your warranty intact - this is the boll@cks.

I have driven both my mates 04 Sti a few times also. In my opinion, if you do more than 15k a year mileage wise, I would go for the wrx ppp. It feels like a dragster salloon. The Sti definately has much more aggressive suspension settings and offers more steering feel, though.

More interestingly, as the turbo kicks in earlier in the wrx, the torque is spread more evenly - does not feel like the all in one hit you get with the Sti, but enjoyable.

The only other thing - the prodrive exhaust. It does make a damn good rumble. I used to have a 330i, and I missed the noise from the standard wrx. Also, the wrx ppp makes a much more impressive howl than the standard Sti to my ears.

Anyone else had the ppp done yet on their 05 wrx?

Happy Driving!

How does the 05 WRX handle and drive in comparison to the 03/04 WRX? I had an 03 WRX PPP which was perfect in every way except for the softness in going round sweeping bends. Is the 05 much improved in that department? I'm very close to getting an 05 WRX and getting rid of my Evo 7.

PPP on WRX SL Wagon done nearly 2 weeks ago. DO indeed love it as it makes the standard car feel slow but not as much of the raw feeling as classics give with similiar alterations. Still trying to decide what I prefer but it gives me a good feeling. Boost still runs out of puff too soon though - 5000rpm or thereabouts and it's all over, but I know I need to time to adjust my driving style. PPP very recommended though, and enjoying it a fair bit. Anyone questioning themselves should go and do it as it makes a good car even better. Lovely noise as well - my days of big loud exhausts are gone, and this is a nice compromise...

3rd is now a beauty

Alright guys,

Have been driving a lot over the weekend and have noticed that 3rd has now become much more torquey than the standard car. If you wanted a "pin you back" type of acceleration in the standard car - 2nd was your man. When you changed up to 3rd at around 55mph, the standard wrx did not continue to pull as savagely as the ppp.

To answer the question about the suspension - there is a bit of roll in the 05 wrx - in fact a little too much if you enjoy tearing around the peak district (me!) - I will fit the prodrive springs, me thinks.

04/05 year car?

I have just bought a 5door WRX car registered on 1/9/04, how do I tell if it is an 04 or 05 model?

Avalyn 20 December 2004 10:01 AM

mattdoyle ..

Very quickly .. do you have climate control (05) or just air con (04)? Do you have red brake calipers (05) .. a three spoke steering wheel with a subaru logo (05) or a momo item (04) .. lots of other wee things but that'll be enough to sort you out :D

Avalyn.

I'd be very surprised if it is an 05, i don't think anybody got an 05 until november.

It could possibly be, as I got my 05 delivered on Tue 28 September, and I know I got one of the first ones in the country (first order for the new crystal grey colour they had as I ordered it before they had confirmed it was coming - lucky guess!), but you are right in that 1 Sept seems too early - thus am sure it will be an MY04.

Thx Gents

Yes it is an 04, has momo whell, A/C and grey rear calipers with Subaro logo on them.

regards

PS does anyone know the best way of keeping the white Subaru logo on the calipers from getting all crudded up?

Smudga 20 December 2004 11:53 AM

Well I've just got my first Subaru picked it up Saturday - 04 STi with PPP can say it is superb, drove a Std STi no comparason. The extra seems to smooth out the power band.

Help required from you experienced guys - how on earth do you get the grin off your face and stop yourself looking at it out of the office window!!:)

:D

After about a week of boring your colleagues they will slap you ;)

The 05 has a Momo wheel. It just happens to have the subaru logo in the middle. But momo is etched into the bottom of the middle spoke.

Or at least it is in mine.

PPP. Too soon for me to spend £1600 after buying the car.

3-6 months from now? It looks ever more likely.
