Anyone recommend a Proxy Server
Hi all,
Client has asked me if there is a proxy server on the market that will do the usual caching and logging but will prompt the user for their credentials and a reason for accessing the net before allowing access. They dont want to stop people accessing the 'net but do want people to *think* about whether they should be accessing the net before they do so. Anyone have any ideas of software to do this? Cheers Paul.. |
what client software are you running?

Would prefer windows based but quite happy to run Linux or suchlike if needs be.

Does squid allow me to request the reason as well as authentication before allowing access? I know I could set up each reason as a username (without a password) but that seems a crap workaround to what they want.

yep it has authicentation.
You can also have a ban list for certain sites / IP's Different users running different ACL's (access control lists) It can log pretty much whatever you want - although there are some people who write squid log analizers. I generally just log by source IP address as all our DHCP machines have are allocated an IP by MAC. Some of the reporting tools are really funky. |
ISA server will do the authentication for you but you would have to write your own DLL or something to then request a reason pop-up box.
