Sh@t Myself/There Is A God

Coming home tonight up the M11 & onto the A11. Came past the Gt Chesterford turn off & no 2 ways, it was late, the roads were clear & I was (shall I say) zinging along - as much as you can in a XC70 Diesel Estate ;)

There's a car coming up the slip road & it is going some. I pull out & back in & the car tucks in behind me but at a safe distance of 40 yds or so.

Hmm...

I adjust my "zing" carefully a smidgen to a licence safe speed but continue on my way at a steady rate. Up the hill, overtook a van, & down the 2 mile straight the other side. Car behind keeps track.

Can't be a plod or he would've pulled me by now so as they only need a few hundred yards & we passed a "suitable" layby after 1/2 mile. But there's a car coming up going slower...

At a position just before I would consider to indicate & move out, car behind pulls out and accelerates. Gah I think, trust him to decide to move to overtake when there is a car & a sweeping corner coming up. I patiently bide my time until I have to make a choice waiting to see what happens. He's still behind, out but closer. He is not going too fast to cause a problem, he is unlikely to overtake & if I move now, won't be considered as agressive. So I move out.

 BLUE FLASHING LIGHTS

F*** F*** F***

I can't risk that he's being nice & on a shout, so daren't accelerate, so nip back in behind the car on the inside lane & hit the brakes. Unfortunately he doesn't sail past - bugger. He matches our pace around the long sweeper then when I'm expecting him to tuck behind & give me the good news, he smoothly accelerates past & then nips off at the upcoming slip road - one of Cambs finest in a dayglo Traffic Volvo

My lucky day & goes to show that not all coppers are b'stewards :D

God bless

:)

Have to say that him giving you the blues when you're committing to an overtaking manoeuver -- especially when he's followed you for some time and has no apparent intention to pull you -- is NOT a good idea because of the distraction potential which could lead to an accident.

Different matter if it's a full-on chase at illegal speeds, but surely he had already worked out you were going about your business reasonably lawfully.

Lucky escape tho', your heart must've been tickling your front teeth when the lights started flashing

He prolly pulled off to self-administer a drugs test...I mean come on, if you saw a diesel Volvo, exceeding the speed limit, and showing correct lane discipline...well you'd gotta ask yourself if somone spiked your ovaltine ;)
