Any home security experts?

A couple years ago, we had an attempted break-in, Mr Dumb & Mrs Dumber trying to ram-raid the attached garage in the daytime... while we were at home! Following that, I beefed up the security, adding a 2nd bell-box at the rear & had fitted some CCTV cameras. I already have some good lighting. The CCTV cameras are black & about 2" square, but pretty high quality. Our guttering is black, the facia boards are dark brown & full of stuff like cables for the CCTV, cables for the lighting & sensors + cabling for Sky. This all makes the cameras difficult to see. I figured that the pros would notice the cameras.

Q Should I put up a CCTV warning sign to make it more obvious to opportunists, or would this just attract the pros to our property?

The house is a converted barn, located in the country with only one neighbour.

It's a no win situation with the sign, maybe change the casing of the camera to a lighter colour?

The best thing to do is to put a big fence up and have a couple of Rhodesian Rhidgebacks free to wonder as they please....

Thanks for the reply. A fence isn't an option, so the sign is no good?

I'm no expert, but like you say, it may show you have something to protect.

Failing a couple of big dogs (the ridgeback is supposed to be very good for this) then I'd get on to local plod who usually send someone out ot give you advice.....

Perhaps a large dummy camera in a prominent position? So they will try to disable that rather than real ones.

Also recommend a phone/speech dialler (unless you already have one/ADT/redcare). So at least you know somebody is messing about with your house when your not at home.

Tony Martin Secuirty Services. 'nuff said :D lol

Seriously though, it is a double edged sword, you put a sign up and some tealeaf will figure you might have something worth nicking and give it a go. Same might happen without.

Think talking to local police is a sound idea, as are some big dogs, leave em hungry :D

Thanks guys

I already have my alarm system linked to my cellphone, but there again - the crims don't know that, so it's not a deterrent. When I got an attempted break-in 2 years ago, the police weren't much good. The only thing they suggest was that I should chain up my pushbike, that's kept in my locked, alarmed, barred & now CCTV covered garage! :Whatever_
