whats a wrc chirp

read a post earlier about dump valves and air filters and someone mentioned a rally car chirp ?

well, today i replaced my blitz sus induction kit for a K+N 57i and also replaced my baileys vta dump-valve with a forge recirculating one....

anyhow,,,when taking it for a spin and after warming it up i started to notice this 'chirp' , , , , thought me budgie was under the bonnet ;-)

is this the wrc chirp ?
but,as i fitted them both at the same time im not sure which is making the noise ? but its bloody noticeable and not sure if i like it . . . i changed back to a recirc to get away from noises, lol.
oh,and my mapper dont like vta's ;-)

opinions plz !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Recirc's can sound like that when you have an induction kit mate, it's just the recirculated air blowing back out of the cone filter.

Dazza - Mine does the same matey. Its like a chirp and flutter. I am running a Forge Recirc with Green Panel and you can still hear it back through the airbox.....its not massivly noticeable but loud enough from inside the car.........I don't really mind the sound :)

its none of them micky, love to hear sound files for them though ,lol .
cheers drex,must be that,
yeah karl, its like that but tiz quite loud, not as loud as the pssssht from the vta
but i'll get used to it,i hope ;-)

The WRC cars run without any form of dump valve what so ever but the turbo is rebuilt or replaced after every rally. The "chirp" noise comes from compressor inside the turbo rapidly moving forwards and backwards when they lift off the throttle

You can do it on a road car to sound identical to a WRC car but the remember the strain on the turbo is massive and the shaft connecting the compressor to the exhaust wheel can give way. Apparently the TD05 is ok for reverse direction with my turbo lasting 2 years so far running without a dump valve and sounding better than some £200 HKS doo dahs.

If you remove the std recirculating dumpvalve and block off the openings with an alloy wheel nut and a coachbolt then fit a cone filter. When you lift off the throttle at low pressure you can hear the turbo running backwards and forwards this is the "chirp" that you describe. If you lift off at high pressure you here it dump the boost through the air filter in a darth vader style then chirp till the pressure equalises either side of the turbo compressor wheel.

What colour spring is in thr Forge recirc?

Its been known for people to use the red one because it chirps, if you use the blue one it shouldn't chirp. Its just an idea, you might have a blue spring anyway :D
