Right had the car back for two weeks now and I promised Adam I would let him know what I thought to it and the clinic. Its fitted to a bugeye BTW.

Here goes!

Handling kit
My first impressions were - this is scary. I found the steering very responsive and that has taken some getting used to. A little more about that in a second.

The ride is firm which at first (as I PM'd Adam) I found very uncomfortable. You really do feel the lumps and bumps on the road. I have now got used to that but at first its off putting.

Righto - I have been taking it steady the last couple of weeks and slowly slowly pushin the car harder round corners each day. So last night I went on a long drive in the wee hours of the morning 11pm - 3am :norty: when most good citizens are in bed. Some of you maybe familiar with a road called 'thirteen bends' near Bakewell in Derbyshire. A lot of fun on the way back to Sheffield :norty:

Excellent, didn't have a problem. They fitted my MOT, fitted the handling stuff and did the geometery and waited for me to pick it up.

Adam (SpecialX) will have to give the full list as I can't remember, I have the list at home so I will post later.

Solid alloy drop links front and back. Anti lift kit I can remember though. :D

right if memory serves me correct you had


rear adjustable anti roll bar
front and rear drop links
antilift kit
and I could be wrong eibachs springs?
and a clinic special Geometry set up.


did you have an upper front strut aswell?

it can be very strange getting back into your car after these kind of mods, it's as if all of the previous limits of your cars handling characteristics have been pushed to a higher level and it takes a while to catch up or just have the bottle to push that bit harder on your favourite bendhttp://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/...i/biglaugh.gif

My03 STi Booked in on the 17th... and i'm sooo looking fwd to it...

The review in all its deatil will be forecoming along with real world times over my fav stretch of bumpy twisty over the peaks raod and corner speed on my fav very long wide bend... hehehe..:norty: :norty:

Yes Adam you are wrong but I let you off as its what Paul (Scooby66) had on his and I have been following the list he gave me.

If a dirty car is any indication of enjoyment I hope this gives you an idea. Spottless on friday lunch time, drove it home and locked it up in the garage. Out sunday night and back in the wee hours of monday :norty:

tmo - YOU CAN'T! I had it after taking my mates classic for a spin. It totally transformed his car.

I had the above done on my MY02 Sti plus Eibach springs and uper strut brace and can second the statement above, the car has been transformed.

Much more enjoyable :) :)

Plan was to get the Clinic to sort my n/s front issue (Bearing or CV not sure which yet)

THEN

Wait until the New Year and have the rear adjustable anti roll bar, front and rear drop links, antilift kit and geom set up.
But it now seems like more sense (to me) to have it all done in one go. :thumb:
(Even though I have bought a VW stealth Diesel to run through the winter)

I am having a few more bits done at the end of january so I am certainly hanging on till next year. :D


But then again next year isn't that far away. If your family hates me then they will detest Adam.

I have had the "tour" in the past, therefore I am well aware of the dark forces that operate within the said area that take the form of some sort of mind and logic paralysis.
Work carried out on my car by the clinic so far has been of excellent standard, so it is only appropriate that my impending suspension mods are carried out at the said premises, basically apart from myself the clinic are the only people I trust to work on my car :thumb:

Just trying to resist until mid january

Unfortunately as the clinic prices are reasonable every thing is easily justifiable. ;)

PS I also know the 13 bends prety well after working in Buxton for 3 years.

Have to say one of my best drives was over the cat and fiddle once.

Always keep them clean, don't want to give the boys in blue any reason to stop me having my fun. ;)

Right now its having the 05 spec-c suspension and a front strut brace fitted.

Two weeks today I will post again on how it is. Obviously its back at the Clinic again BTW.

1st short journey home and the ride wasn't as harsh as I expected. The car felt like it didn't bob in the dips on the road I used.

Firm ride and I think it gave me more feed back than before as to the surface of the road. I could feel how the car was gripping the road a lot better.

It looks like the car has dropped a little bit. I took some photos of it last week to compare the before and after. I will post those tommorow when I take some new ones.

At the moment I have a photo of the engine bay with the new STI front strut.

Good news Dave, good news! Get the pic of the engine bay posted so I can see what a *proper* flat four should look like! Is there anymore to do to it handling wise or are you finally gonna start on those performance mods? ;)

I don't know if I could condone running over cats and musical instruments. ;)

TBH there will be no engine mods for me for a long time. Probably cosmetic things will happen next, like fixing the scratch on the bumper! Its the handling that interests me. IIRC the only other thing I can do is a front anti-roll bar but speaking to Kev he recommended seeing how all of this is first.

I agree, so I suppose there could be a little extra change in the future.


Edited to add (Don't want to BTT it with a small entry):

Ride is slightly harder but nothing that I can't put up with. As Adam said last night - I really didn't like it at first when the first stage was complete but I did get used to it after a couple of weeks.

Too much standing water on the roads this morning so it was difficult to find places I could push it.

Several corners I just ran at them at speeds I usually find the car skips sideways slighty as it grips, looses grip and grips again. This didn't happen today in the wet, the car felt firm.

The steering seems even more aggressive / sharp than before.


TBH I know that Kev can put on a front anti roll bar but I feel at the moment this is as far as I want to take it handling wise.


Next major mod will be brake upgrades. Starting with hoses and in all likelyhood eventually progressing to replacing the whole lot. I need to beef them up before I get anymore power.

And guess whos doing that road in the next few hours? :norty:

Yes I did but nothing too hard as I was worried about ice. Still pushed it and felt a difference.


Its true what the guy at the Clinic said (The turbo leggy driver - sorry Don't know his name but he knows his stuff!) the car does pull to one side or another depending on the camber of the road when you corner. Its nothing detrimental to the setup but it is there and you do notice it sometimes. :D

I will be out with my mate in his new Civic type R this weekend, fingers crossed its dry. 05:30 start for me and two hours of driving on relatively clear roads (I hope!).

I know what you mean. I've had to come back in to work tonight for some user testing and thought might go the long way round up to owler bar and down into sheffield, but like you thought it's black ice territoty and just pootled up the bypass and down through woodseats.
