Secret stash of WR1 wheels - where are they ???

As title folks...

What happened to the 500 odd pairs of WR1 wheels and tyres that the cars were rolling on before they got upgraded at prodrive ?

They were supposedly STi alloys in dark grey with the REO70 tyres - so who got them all ?

Prodrive ? or who ?

Can any one PLEASE direct me to the secret stash of WR1 wheels ?

Names and numbers would be cool

Thanks

John T.

Try your local dealer..... I know mine had quite a few for sale at one point.

megabusa 05 December 2004 10:20 PM

Ah, you mean these....

As Silver Scooby Sport said, they are/were distributed through the dealers.

chris's scooby 05 December 2004 10:24 PM

There are still sets available to order from dealers. Price varies from dealer to dealer, so phone around.

I've got a set which has done about 4,500 miles sitting in my garage if you get stuck. Looking for about £420 for the set, complete with RE-070 tyres.

There are hundreds at IM parts dept on trailers, saw them last week. Bet dealers would sell you some!

Boyakasha 06 December 2004 11:29 AM

Got 2 sets of these :D

Can't wait for the spring to put them on ;)

jmk 06 December 2004 01:12 PM

Boyakasha / megabusha - how much did they set you back, where did you get yours from and do you have a name and number?

jmk, got mine through the dealer. Best bet is to phone your local dealer and ask them if the could source you a set.

JonW 06 December 2004 06:38 PM

It was just the same when they built the P1s - went to my local dealer who sourced me a set at basically the price of the tyres so the wheels were free!

Somethings a little off here...

Phoned at least 7 dealers yesterday - from north to south...

NONE had any WR1 cast offs and NONE claimed to have ever had any...

even Stan Palmer ????

One dealer rang around... and found nothing....

So the reality is that the plot thickens...

Either this is a big wind up (well done guys)

Or no one wants to sell these on AND THERE IS A SECRET STASH as I originally presumed...

So WRX alloys will have to do instead - shame ...

P.S. Shame no one who "has these wheels" can give us a name and number ????

Try again and get the dealers to do some work! These wheels and tyres are still available from stock at Subaru.

Mike

Why not ring IM direct.........sorry don't have a number!!!!!!!!!!!!

sandycam 07 December 2004 09:24 AM

i heard when i bought mine there was only 13 sets not in dealers and that was back in september. (good source) Only chance you have now is from a dealer so you could print the list off of there website and work your way through it.

GarethE 07 December 2004 09:47 AM

Keith Price Subaru, Crickhowell/Abergavenny have a set as I was looking at them yesterday !!

JohnS 07 December 2004 09:51 AM

OK, phoned the dealer I bought mine from and found out the part number:

The part number for a set of 4 wheels and tyres is SACC6045. This consists of SACC6045W (wheels/tyres) and SACC6045C (Centre caps). The prices will vary between dealers, as there was some sort of deal where if they bought 20 sets they got a free set or something like that, but expect to pay in the region of £750 - £800 for a set including tyres.

Try Gates Tyres in Carlisle, (01228) 521314 & 819191, think they're about £128 each.

brooks 02 February 2005 03:54 PM

Will these fit Classics? The Cheam site suggests that they wont.
Simon

Tony MY03WRX 02 February 2005 04:45 PM

I think you have to change the tyres m8, but the alloys should fit.

Thanks Tony - anyone able to confirm?

Houghton 02 February 2005 05:38 PM

If they're the same as STi8 wheel/tyre i.e. 225/45/17 et53 then yes & no.

I fitted these to my classic and the tyres are a touch too wide, I found the tyre just touches the struts and can touch the wheel arch when the suspensions compressed. 205 or 215s would be better IMHO.

I've (temporarily) fitted 3mm spacers to the rears to clear the struts and already have rolled arches.

Houghton 02 February 2005 05:41 PM

BTW was offered a set of WR1s for £800 from the dealer in Aylesbury a couple of weeks ago.

preacha 02 February 2005 10:49 PM

Wow, my old thread back up...

I did finally get a set from Town & Country in Aberdeen (or somewhere 'oop thar). :)

£ 500 + vat + carraige = £630 approx.

Had them in 48 hrs.

The wheels / tyres package immediately felt considerably heavier on the steering (and general feel of car), but also felt more planted.

The ride is harder than GSD3 (had 2 sets previous) with stiffer sidewalls and better dry grip.

At the limit / in the wet they can step out abruptly. GSD3 slowly slide out, the fancy jap tread has similar characteristics - yet lets go quicker.

Worst effect - would be all that tramlining and rut following returning  due to solely the tread pattern - with steering now more "alive" or maybe more "skittish". Noisier too.

(Yes I've had my wheels aligned 3 times since new @ TSL etc - and know that a car on rails on the flat can become very different on poorer road surfaces due to the tread pattern).

Best effect - very grippy, lots of confidence installed on dry roads, loses the sidewall sway of GSD3, and looks the balm.

Cheers Guys. Go get 'em. :norty:

John T.

N.B. Bought these after making a mess of me GSD3's with Don Palmer on his Creative Car Control course. Currently have for sale x4 MY02 alloys with tyres (2 good lots of tread, 2 not so good , shoulders badly worn) Offers nr £200 would make me think :)

~~ Cal ~~ 03 February 2005 11:50 AM

Got my from the same dealers too :- I too paid £500 plus VAT ( Total £587.50) BUT also got an Sti backbox thrown in for nowt too :D. Their advert for these wheels inside the showroom clearly states this ;)

Hope this helps

Cheers
Cal
