Has anyone got a list of what is formally defined as a dangerous sport ?

I seem to recall that a holiday insurance brochure I had listed out various exclusions - things like skiing, white water rafting, rock climbing etc. That might be the closest you get and I expect it varies from company to company. What did you have in mind?

However I do partake in Hillclimb / sprinting (basic motorsport) against the clock, rather directly against other cars..... and the occaisional track day !

I don't see these as dangerous sports as all precausions are taken such as fully caged car, nomex suit, boots, gloves, helmet etc

It is recognised as a sport. Phil Taylor is in the top 10 sports men of the 21st century.

Believe it or not, it is changing these days. Like anything - progress. The beer swilling will make you not as good as the dedicated player these days. Again - ask Andy Fordham.

Hmmm - You might need specialist travel Insurance for this.

But I'm only guessing - I'm Sure Tiggs will have a better Idea ;)

Point proved. How can the champion of a 'sport' be considered a sportsman when he's so unfit he can't even stand in a pub for an hour or two without collapsing?!

And please point us to where Darts is officially recognised as a sport. Thx.

Fordham is the BDO champion - he is a natural talent but now well behind the professional types such as Taylor, Scholten, Part etc.

Proves that the beer swilling aint gonna cut it these days - that's why the PDC was formed. The BDO is full of beer swillers, the PDC is somewhat a class above.

P.S. 115 degrees fahrenheit I think you'd struggle as well. So don't knock what you quite clearly do not understand.

So why was it so hot in there? Was it a badly organised event? Wouldn't a responsible 'sporting body' have made sure things like that don't happen? You're right, I don't understand; how people can confuse blokes throwing pieces of metal at a piece of cork with sport.

The same as those who say throwing a ball at a bloke with a bat no doubt....

The event WAS badly organised - no doubt. However it was the kick up the butt they needed. Again, progress.

All in the top 5 in the world. Some are fat, yes. But some aren't, and the decent ones....aren't. You will find the beer swilling mentality is dying out amongst the professionals now.

Generally a fat bloke wouldn't play football at the highest level - except Rooney. ;)

when a load of pub football play football its a game of football - but when skilled professionals "compete" for vast quantities of "money" things change.

The game of football is a sport. Regardless of if you are doing it well. If you play football doesn't automatically make you a sportsman, but you are partaking in a sport nonetheless.

Err.. you think there's more to it than that?

Anyway all this is beside the point of the original issue, whether you believe it or not it's NOT a sport, and I have proved it.

Nope, speed isn't a physical entity so it won't kill on its own unless we're talking overdosing on the powdered substance ;)

What a life insurance underwriter classifies as a dangerous sport is not necessarily the same as, say, a sickness or travel insurer's definition. Moreover, attitudes towards certain sports also vary from company to company, even within the same class of business.

Can you be more specific about the type of insurance you're enquiring about? Also an idea of the sport(s) that you're either already involved in - or are likely to be involved in - would be helpful.
