help intercooler help!
 

trying to refit my intercooler MY99 after fitting defi sender but the bottom pipe wont sleeve back onto turbo.
tried vaseline, took right hand bracket off, scraped several knuckles and within inches of kicking something!
can anyone help

I have never done this on a Scoob but other turbo cars

is it rubber hose or a metal sleeve? if hose i would not recommend anything like vaseline as you run the risk of the pipe popping off later, if it is a hose try placing it in the correct area and rotating the hose it will make it easier to slip on.

if a metal sleeve check for a locating lug getting in the way or some kind of spring clip

have a cup of tea and enjoy the free bttt, you will get it in the end.

Can you put the pipe in hot water it may expand just enough to get it on ?

Had the same issue with my MY04 IC a few weeks back. Tried allsorts to get the Turbo pipe back on..... but in the end found there's a knack to it.

a) Get the IC in place and offer up the pipe to the Turbo outlet
b) Try and get the pipe on to one side of the Turbo outlet (bulkhead side)
c) Go to the passenger side of car and take hold of the IC
d) While gently pushing the IC toward the drivers wing, keep the IC flat and turn it toward the bulk head

I found the stiffness of the pipe under the IC caused it to pop on to to Turbo outlet as if by magic!

Once the pipe was over the Turbo outlet I could wiggle the rest of it on by hand and by 'agitating' the IC.

I've also seen it advised on here to warm the pipe and the one it slips onto with a hairdrier.

when fitting samco hoses to my my00 i found taking the dipstix, (?gearbox) out of the way and a quick squirt of WD40 helped. :)

dropping one of the jubilee clips down and having to scabble under the car to get it back from trapped in the plastic sump guard didn't. ;)

try hair spray, slippy when wet stick when dry, it'll be safer than vaseline/wd40 imho. works on motor bike bar grips

Hot water onto the hose only (not onto the turbo outlet as it'll expand as well (but only a little bit!)) and she'll expand enough for it to slide on.

I do this to a lot of UK cars with the cheap plastic hose and it never fails!
