MY98 UK Turbo - Is the headlight wash switch suppossed to illumiante when the lights are on?

mine did, but now it doesnt.

i've got a MY00 turbo.

saying that, virtually all my switches are no longer illuminated at night.

Doh.

Yeah theres a few on mine that dont, thats one and the rear heated windows the other one

I repaired my hazzard warning lights and heated rear window switches last year - footery job but you can get the small bulbs from Maplins (electronics shop.) At this stage I was convinced that the headlamp wash switch should not illumiante.

Is it definately the case that for my car (details above) that it should illuminate?

my headlamp wash doesn't illuminate, never has - don't tell me thats another bulb to replace!

Anyone find out what sort of bulbs they were?

Mine don't light either (MY98 UK).
Will monitor this thread to find out the answer as been bugging me since i had the car as well.

Only switch on my dash that lights up is the front fog switch... anyone in the cheshire area wanna repair the rest of them for me as I've heard its a fiddily job...

Headlamp wash switch contains 2 bulbs :eek: although I'm not sure why there's 2. Think my switch has probably been replaced before as the metal foil is missing - think I'll get a replacement from Grade A as I need another part anyway...

Changing the bulbs in the switches is quite easy (just turn with a screwdriver), although you need the type with the small holders which you can get from dealers but aparently they're about £3 each which is a bit steep - but if you have the holders, Maplins stock the bulbs but I've no idea what type (Calling Scooby Towers ! ;))

The bulbs inside the hazard switch and rear demister are totally different however, as you have to take them apart and it's very fiddly to put them back together, in fact - I totally knacked mine and had to get replacements from Grade A Subaru at £15 each (Dealer was £75 each :eek: )

Scoobyslammed - getting the foglamp switches out isn't too bad for my MY00 I did this:

1 - remove the tray under the switched which reveals the fuses.

2 - if you put your hand inside you should be able to feel the underside of the switches, press (hard) on the back of the clip at the bottom and use a flat bladed screwdriver to lever it out from the top (at the front) with your other hand - this should unclip it to let you remove it.

just for the ones with the small plastic holders - There was an empty packet in my "wallet" that the previous owner left, so I'm making the assumption that it's the ones in the holders as the rear demister / hazard switch are different from the rest - the dealer told me they were sealed units and you'd have to buy new ones even if you just wanted a bulb (£75 a pop) - I also tried a nissan dealer but no joy there either.

Think i'll leave mine dark!! lol.

I need to phone Grade A later on due to a pressure washer related incident, they're bound to have some bulbs...

mine dosent light up + also electric headlight dial [switch] dont work either now.

Headlamp adjustment switch takes 2 bulbs - 1 for the numbers and 1 for the light on the knob.

Right here we go -
You can change the bulbs inside the hazard and rear demister but at risk of breaking the switch (and loosing several springs plastic bits etc from inside)

The rear & front fog swirches are easier as the bulb is visable once the switch is out.

The bulbs you need are available from Maplins for around £1 each.

Alternativly I have a small kit in my car and can do it for you as you wait at any LADS meeting (check out www.ladsoc.co.uk) or you can post it to me with a SAE and Ill do it via post - all for the price of a pint ;) (to cover bulb etc)

Fog switches are a little easier as you only have to remove your coin tray to get at them.

BTW - The bulbs for the fog switches are identical to the hazard etc - you just need to remove the duff bulb from the holder then rethread the new one - fiddly but not hard.

Did you manage to get a look at your headlamp wash switch then Chris?

Or are you in the Kings Head like you said you would be? :D

I think the answer is YES - it is supposed to illuminate.

Interesting.......my MY00 has never lit from new, will have to investigate.

MY99 never lit from new either. Only headlight adjustment lit.

Mines never illuminated - so No I don't think they are supposed to light up (neither is the bright switch :D)

How comes there's spaces for 2 bulbs then?

A bit Lazy not to include illumination when it's in the switch next door!!

When you say spaces, I assume you mean a socket for a bulb with contacts in the bottom ?

Same here 99 UK Turbowagon. Our 99 Micra headlight adjust doesn't have illumination though so no consistency across manufacturers.
Surely any switch you need to use in dark should be illuminated?

Switches are common across th Nissan / Subaru range - maybe they light on a different model / make.

If not, they were probably never fitted ;)

My headlamp washer button didn't illuminate as standard - no bulbs, no bulb holders, no wiring, just the contacts.

It does now though! Bulb from Maplins (BT43W I think - about 60p) soldered onto the contacts, wiring added, spliced onto the wiring from the switch next door.

That's much more user-friendly than fumbling around in the dark.
