fitting uprated rear LSD - what pros/cons

Hi,
I was just wondering what the pros and cons are of fitting an uprated LSD.

I believe my car is fitted with a suretrak unit - Sti Type R ver V, however, it appears to have a problem in that it does not free and always appears to be be partially locked (on open green DCCD setting)

I have not diagnosed the problem entirely

However, if it is the rear LSD - what options do i have for replacement units?

I have a 1997 Type RA which came with an ATS LSD which was fitted in Japan by the previous owner. When it arrived it was impossible to turn a corned without the back end practically jumping about but in a straight line it was as normal. Had it stripped and found a plate was missing from the LSD unit, this was replaced and the pressure reduced on the plates result, it now corners with a slight clicking noise and no jumping. If you are near to Monmouth I will give you the name of the Guy,

did you find that it was especially noisy aswell, like a rally car.

Yes it was noisy but only when turning sharply or very slowly if I powered it around a sharp corner whilst sprinting the noise wasn't noticable, maybe your LSD has been set up for gravel work ie has been tightened up which is not really what you want for regular use on tarmac. When I reversed the car it made little noise if ever !!!! ( strange ) I have been told that you must ensure that the correct oil is used and you have the correct amount ie .8Ltr I have to raise the back and drop the front to get it all in I now put 1Ltr in as I have run the pinion dry and they are £££££$$$$$$ to replace. It is easy to drop the diff and remove the end cover and have a look to check the bolts are tight.

my car is set up for tarmac - race spec coilovers and pillow ball mounts. . the LSD is very aggresive in my car and drags the rear wheels during sharp low speed turns say when doing a 3 point turn. it clicks and makes a tapping sound when turning.

thanks for the info
