Barcelona - short break.......

Hoping to go to Barca soon and would like some advice. Can anyone recommend a good hotel in the city centre? Also what is the nightlife like there?

Cheers

Depends what you mean by night life! If you mean clubs, I haven't the faintest, but if you mean bars and restaurants, then this must be the best city in the world. Everyone starts about 10pm and carries on until 3 or 4 in the morning, nothing much happens before that!

Can't recommend a hotel as I went about 3 years ago and can't remember the name of the place! It is, however, one of the best cities I've visited (and I've been to a few!), you'll love it :)

Cheers. How far is the airport to the centre? and how much would it cost in a taxi?

Thanks

Barcelona is a fantastic city for a short break.
A taxi from the airport to the centre is around 20 Euros.
A good place to stay would be any hotel on or near to the Ramblas. Ive stayed in the Royal hotel and also the Rivoli Ramblas hotel, both on the Ramblas, with the Rivoli being the better one.
Night life doesn't start till after 10pm then goes on as long as you want!
During the day you can't beat the red and blue tour buses that take you all around the best places to see. Red goes clockwise and blue anti-clockwise (or vice versa?)
They're good 'cos you can get on and off as often as you like and only get off at the places that interest you. A 2 day pass is good value and thats what I'd recommend so you can do one day on red then the other on blue buses.

Whatever you do, you'll have a great time!

Go to the Baja Beach club- family place by day- scantily clad women by night- They bar women all dress up in VERY skimpy bikinis! Its on the beachfront near the Olympic strip

Hi,

I used to live in BCN. A taxi from airport will cost maximum 20E.
Also there is a bus right outside the terminal which costs about 3.50 euros and goes right into the center (Plaza Catalunya at the top of Las Ramblas), or a train for just over 1 euro (but you have to walk across the walkway to the station).

It is my favorite City in the world and i've seen a few. We had our pre-honeymoon (3 nights after wedding prior to 2 weeks in the Maldives :D) in June this year and it was superb. The architecture, the people, the food etc. etc. are top notch. However, we didn't have a say in the hotel (Hotel Gothica) as it was booked for us as a gift and it wasn't that great. The location was good, slap bang in the middle of the Gothic quarter but the rooms and serivce were bad. Eating out, do not bother on La Ramblas as it is over priced and generally inferior quality. Go up some of the side streets to find some real gems of restaurants at very reasonable prices.

The red and blue buses, as has already been said, is the best/cheapest way to see the sights. Must sees are the Sagrada (sp?) and the Gaudi Gardens.
We will certainly be going back for a few weekenders in 2005. Although Barca has some very rough parts like every major Town or City, it still retains a real quality and sophistication that is IMHO unrivaled.

Spent our Honeymoon there as well. :norty: Fantastic city, you'll really enjoy it. The stuff Gaudi designed is out of this world.:notworthy

Word of warning about flights -

Make sure it is Barcelona Airport (Code BCN)you fly to and not Girona airport (Code GRO) as some Irish flight Co's call Girona "Girona Barcelona Airport" which is NOT a 20 Euro taxi ride away! Think its about an hours drive away - maybe thats the 60 Euro taxi ride you were told about?
