How nice

Oh yea of little faith

Ofcourse it's different to a MY00.....it's an RB5

Mungo 01 December 2004 01:08 PM

Am I missing some really ironic twist here?
The whole point is that an Impreza isn't quicker than an M3 (unless of course if has had "mods" ;-)) but with some sneaky queuing it can "beat" an M3.

:D :D

I'll pack up and go home but I have plenty for my tea :D

Skittles 01 December 2004 01:34 PM

Err so you decided to post on here to basically say: I jumped the queue at a Petrol station, as a result beat an M3 driver at filling fuel and he got annoyed.

Presumably Micra drivers can beat Enzo drivers in much the same way...

:).

I must admit, when I compare my scoob to a M3 Evo I have only ever owned STI's or my current UK with 297bhp. So not a fair comparison against a PPP UK. But the scoob still will feel quicker than an M3 no matter which variety. The M3 is silky smooth, with a very even power graph. So don't feel quick until you look at speedo.

Old M3 V new M3 very different car. Has driven and been in both. Only 20bhp on paper, but the torque or book figues tell a different story. The new M3 is an animal compared to the old M3 EVO.

What a bizarre thread!

Nice font by the way Slim - that's the only good thing I could contribute after reading this! Serves me right for being bored at work....

Cosworth427 01 December 2004 03:02 PM

Power to weight ratio is such an abused and misunderstood measure in this board.

FletchCSL 01 December 2004 03:08 PM

To be honest i dont think my M5 is any faster than my old M3 Evo, and having raced afew there is nothing in it.

Dont forget with 4wd cars you will need to include transmission losses

-=Buzz=- 01 December 2004 03:18 PM

why can't you duckeggs understand what is being said here??

This particular RB5 IS faster than an M3! It's got all but the same power (about 15 bhp lss I think) and weighs substantially less. Add to this the 4wd and the uprated suspension (which I helped FIT ffs, so I know it's there) and not only is it faster in a straight line it's also faster in the mythical "twisties".

How difficult is that to accept??

An STILL some cretinous moron will argue, I expect.. ho hum.

:D

"I know its heavier, but it also does 0-100 in less than 13 secs........which is faster than a P1....so unless your car is faster than a P1....in aint going to happen."

Don't really want to enter into this debate, but a P1 is apparently 12.3 to 100 so not sure where you're coming from...

davyboy 01 December 2004 03:52 PM

Just reading Evo mag in front of me.

Of course I could always read the mag that gives the fastest figures.......:P

New_scooby_04 01 December 2004 04:00 PM

*adopts chav voice*

My maxed Nova will do both the Scoob and M3! Just got me go faster stripes fitted. ....well tight mate ...

btw what's transmission loss, is it like when yer gearbox blows up, cause me Nova does that quite a bit.

*Chav mode ends*

LOL sorry, I couldn't resist!

Fat Boy 01 December 2004 04:37 PM

Davyboy,

you obviously are :p;)

Yep its an MY99 UK turbo with a fixed bulkhead body shell (non folding rear seats), 215bhp unless you add the PPP then you are looking at 240-245bhp. Standard RB5 (215bhp) decatted probably looking at 240-250 at a push. Remapped as well probably get about 280bhp due to the TD04 turbo.

Thats great news, my RA is 43kgs lighter and has a close group n ratio box and 320bhp. So must be into the 11s :D

m3

i have owned a scooby wrx classic with full de-cat, so shud be 250ish. My mate has a 3.0 m3, we gave them a go one day, same upto 60 then the m3 got me and pulled away quite easily. The fact they are smooth doesnt give a true feel to how fast they are!!!!!11 Also you get about 24% power loss due to the 4wd transmission! Then i traded my scoob for a standard evo 4, the evo kept was ahead at first then the m3 reeled me in at about 90ish and went past.
Then my mate traded his m3 for a m3 evo which was even quicker still. Then came my evo 6 with full decat running 300ish. Give them a go 2gether, i was ahead until a 115ish when he started to catch and went past at about 140ish then we stopped. No offence scooby boys, but if you need a evo ( mitsi) to catch a m3 evo. The evo 4 was so much more torquey than the scoob and had a noticeable power advantage. Fact an evo 6 is a full second quicker to 100 than a p1.

p1 12.2 0-100, 219 per tonne :)

davyboy 01 December 2004 10:05 PM

.....its getting lower....any advance on 12.2?

In a slow old MY01 WRX in white IIRC, hardly the same thing ;) Not that I care, I too have been there and done that as regards Imprezas...

john banks 01 December 2004 11:05 PM

What do you follow a sorted (say >400 BHP with little lag, proper brakes and suspension whilst still being comfortable and usable every day) Impreza with though without spending over £50000 or having something impractical or unreliable?

Tchort 01 December 2004 11:47 PM

another M3 vs scoob post FFS.

Firstly I could aford an e46 M3 and was looking at getting one so its nothing to do with envy.

I drove the M3 and it was bloody fast but just felt heavy, test drove lots of other cars but ended up with a P1. the scoob is just a lot more fun to drive and totaly outhandles the M3 and the performace is the same , you can argue .2 of a second here or there if you want but whats the point.

All in all the P1 has a raw driving experience (and turns more heads) where as the M3 gives you a lot more comfort.

I absolutely love my scoob but dont get to use it every day which is a shame, but then again my daily drive is an 323 beemer so i'm happy.

Rambled an bit here but BMW are fantastic cars and I love them, apart from some of bangles bloody design work and I don't like the idea of a V8 in the new M3 either (but i'll leave this for the www.bm3w.co.uk forums)

anyway happy driving be it in a BMW or Subaru, and lets start slagging off the AUDI rubbish :-)

I'm guessing there is an age/affordability issue with the whole, anmd let's face it, constantly ongoing, Scoob v's M3 debate. When people get a bit older where they can afford an M3, maybe their point of view changes, as it is, they can afford a scoob, and so thay becomes the best thing on 4 wheels, unbeatable by anything!!

Could be for some folks. Personally, I bought a brand new MY00 scooby (dutch import) for £15k in 2000. I then upgraded to a 3 year old Audi S4 Avant in early 2004, which cost just over £20k. Recently, I sold the Audi, as I couldn't justify having such an expensive car - 2 kids & a new house :(

... so now I've got an M3 :) however, it's a 1994 3.0 M3 that only cost me £7k. It is actually the cheapest car I've bought since my first car - a 1987 Escort 1.4L, but it still puts a big smile on my face :)

Terranaut 02 December 2004 01:23 PM

I think I'll join in:

'My standard Saab 9000 will outdrag most Impreza's and it weighs more than most busses!'

It's also a bit big for sneaking around fuel pumps though.

catalunya199again 02 December 2004 03:07 PM

excuse my stupidity but are we talking about the new shape m3 or old shape cause if its new shape a uk turbo with 250bhp would get blitzed against the old m3s its different but them new ones are seriously fast
