Car failed mot today :(

1.Twisted brakepipe
2.Bulbs in side repeaters not orange (forgot to change when i put clear on)
3.wipers hitting my new sunstrip

Not bad for a 7 year old ;) it took half an hour to sort brake line and bulbs (free) and he let me off the wipers saying "you gonna buy some smaller ones later" :p

Davey P 29 November 2004 10:07 PM

My car passed its MOT with clear side bulbs. Do yours not flash orange??

p@ul 29 November 2004 10:14 PM

No m8,when i changed to crystal side repeaters i didn't get the orange or silvertec bulbs so they just flashed white lol

AndyC_772 29 November 2004 10:22 PM

So, you passed because you were going to buy smaller wipers that wipe less of the screen and therefore give worse visibility?

Don't you just love bureaucracy? :D

Comper100 29 November 2004 10:27 PM

So if your wipers touch a sunstrip then it fails? Thats a very small strip to be legal! :(

Tell me about it m8,the wipers i have on the car are 2 weeks old and work perfectly well with strip on but they told me to put smaller wipers on so as to not interfere? i never heard anything so daft lol

AndyC_772 29 November 2004 11:03 PM

It is bonkers - they deem the sun strip to be too big if it intrudes on the driver's field of view, which is defined to be the area which is swept by the wipers. So, smaller wipers = sun strip not too big. D'uh...

Gear Head 29 November 2004 11:06 PM

Just take the sunstrip off m8. Would rather have bigger wiper blades for when it rains. Buy yourself some nice shades for when the sun comes out!

p@ul 29 November 2004 11:08 PM

Dont need to m8 i got the mot pass cert in front of me,he took my word for it that i would swap the wipers ;)

I'm almost sure that a car cannot fail for wipers hitting a sunstrip (I'm an mot tester and have never heard of anything so daft). He probably let you go so you wouldn't report him to the ministry and getting him ridiculed.

Here's a tip for sunstrip owners - when MOT time comes along, replace the wiper blade ( complete ) with blades from a ford KA.

Works a treat, still wipes windscreen but doesn't touch sunstrip.

That's my 2p worth.

Skoosh.

going by the book, the wipers can go upto 10mm on to the sunstrip and pass.
