Steering box warrenty issues

I noticed not long ago that my steering rack was leaking. Took the car to my import dealer where I purchased the car from. They said that the seals in the steering box had perished and that I needed a new one. I said ok and they went ahead and ordered the part from Japan. I have a warrenty on the car that runs out at the end if december.
Should this be covered by it? The dealer said no as it was a perishable item that had failed.
Also, I had to pay to have the front brake discs replaced as one had cracked after only 2 months of having the car. (I always let the brakes warm up before using hard).
Would appreciate any advice.

TBH i doubt that you will get anything back for the brake discs .....but the rack leaking could be a differant matter .....you really need to study ALL the smallprint in your warranty book ...there is differant levels of cover .....both of these problems you have are MOT failures , when was it MOT`d ?

Before I picked the car up last december

This is what my warreny book states.

'Steering:
Steering rack and pinion, steering box, idler box, power steering unit including pump, pressure pipes and reservior, but excluding power steering belts, external links and joints, rubber boots and swivel pins.'

Usual problem with smallprint. In your first post you say seals perished your book says rubber boots. Which has gone? Contact the warranty co. for a clear explanation pref in writing. Try your local Trading Standards and/or Citizens Advice Bureau. They may be able to offer some help.
You will find other posts on here about these problems with warranties.
