Scam!!!

Go to www.ebay.co.uk and sign in. I'm sure you'll find everything in order.

OllyK 23 November 2004 04:50 PM

Never click on links sent in e-mails like this. Go directly to ebay by typing the address in your browser. Log in as normal, I expect you will find everything is OK.

Alas 23 November 2004 04:50 PM

Probably a scam. Just go to ebay, sign in and see. Do NOT use the link.
Cheers

Smells like a scam to me. Don't click any links in the e-mail. Go to the Ebay site by the recognised address and check it out there.

De Warrenne 23 November 2004 04:51 PM

report it too - theres a spoof@ebay.co.uk (or similar) address somewhere on the site

SCAM

davegtt 23 November 2004 04:53 PM

Sophisticated phishing effort. For every 999 people who delete this mail (like you should), one uninformed soul will reply in good faith.

Cheers

I had something very similar - looked very official like from e-bay saying that someone had tried to purchase something using my account name and password. Told me to click on button below (to enable my account to be accessed), which I did and came up with what looked exactly like the e-bay sign in page but in the bottom left of the toolbar (sorry not very comp techy) it was a completely different web address ie. not www.ebay.com/signin (or whatever it should be).

When I took the web address on the bottom toolbar and pasted into the address bar at the top of the page, it went to the usual "this page could not be found" type of wording!!!

Reported to e-bay immediately. Luckily I was suspicious and did not use the sign in page that it directed me to.

Jo

Doh .... just read the post above!! Might be helpful to others though :)

MrsP1Fanatic 23 November 2004 05:35 PM

I had one yesterday - I E-Mailed eBay with that Spoof address and they have confirmed that it is a scam!

DO NOT ENTER ANY DETAILS AT ALL :O(

Do these idiots think we are stupid enough to actually do this!

I had a few of those and ignored them because they are a scam then I got suckered by another :o The following day my account was hijacked and now I have no ebay account :(

thecirsch 24 November 2004 01:19 PM

Sorry for being thick (no change there then ;) ). But why would someone want my e-bay account?

MrsP1Fanatic 24 November 2004 01:23 PM

What they are asking you to do is click on a link on their E-Mail and enter your details (Credit Cards, Bank Details, Address - EVERYTHING). This is nothing to do with your eBay a/c!

They just want your details to scam you and spend your money :(

eBay have informed me that they are dealing with this issue and that they need anyone who gets one of these E-Mail to let them know asap.

Freak 24 November 2004 01:24 PM

so they can sell things that dont exist....normally high value items.

1- forward that to spoof@ebay.co.uk
2- delete it
3- log into www.ebay.co.uk and read their safety pages, and what they say about the emails that are genuinely sent from ebay. there are a couple of things that stand out a mile that that one is a fake.

ChrisB 24 November 2004 01:24 PM

So they can sell something that doesn't exist, take the money from the buyer and run.

Leaving your account in the mire...

ChrisB 24 November 2004 01:28 PM

eBay have informed me that they are dealing with this issue
eBay can't deal with it though.

As long as there is an eBay user who doesn't understand a phising / social engineering attack, accounts will continue to get hacked and people ripped off in some form.

Paulo P 24 November 2004 01:42 PM

My account was reported by me at midnight and was closed by ebay the following morning  the hijackers were listing 40 foot camper vans in america for $1500  They were supposed to 2004 models too  Other than fcuk me off they achieved nothing
