New York City - where for horse & carriage in central park ?

Where do you go to get the horse and carriage ride round central park ?

I thought you were looking for parking for your horse and carriage..

Just near the South entrance, across from the posh hotels.

By the Grand Plaza Hotel, bottom left corner of Central Park (8th Avenue & West 59th Street)

I think it cost us about US$50 for a night time ride through the park (about 2 weeks ago)

Wrap up warm, it was freezing!!! :)

Two weeks ago on a Central Park Carriage!

Andy - very cute! I heard Central Park isn't safe at night ? Saying that I haven't been to NYC for 15 years so a lot has probably changed. You'll be telling me I can walk around the city at night next!

We got ours on a Saturday evening and there was a choice!!

Like a taxi rank, but there were a good 10-15 we could have caught. :) But there were even more during the day.

No waiting around, just ask how much and hopped in.

Our carriage had two guys, but I guess it was to fend off the crackheads in Central Park!! ;)

Joking aside, the guys operating the carriage knows the area. The last time I went was in 1997 and there was no way I would go into the park at night then, but now it was little erry (thanks to all the stories) there were no issues.

No problems wandering around most places at night.

Just do sensible things like: don't dither about on the Subway (makes you an easy tourist target) and apparently waiting at the crossings is a big giveaway.

Fortunately we were in a group of five, but like with any big city keep your wits about you!

We had a confrontation with 3 wannabe gangsters in the subway one night, but just ignoring them and going about your business (despite having abuse thrown at you) seem to work. Don't rise to intimidation. In a fight or flight moment, I just pottered along at my own pace! A bit scary for the others I was with, (3 women and an 'arty' guy) but we weren't stabbed, shot or beaten!! :)
