New computer......custom build?
 

thinking about passing this one onto youngest, and investing in wireless networking.

I've seen several computers that interest me, around the GBP1000 mark, from Comet, PCWorld etc, but my eldest know-all son insists we could have better for the same money, or the same for less money by having one built. ie: NOT building it myself, having someone do it for me).

Personally, I can't see how this can work.

Any comments?

Basically if youve seen a shop selling a fully built PC for £1000 then you could probably build that exact same PC for £700. I built a half decent spec PC with some help from Tainton (cheers mate) for £300.

Looks like eldest is right then?

So.............how do you go about a build? Who can you trust to help? And the biggy..............what do you do if it goes wrong?????

As a second income, I usually charge about £100.00 for consultation, assembly & instillation (software) of home machines.

Other places offer a simmilar service - www.aria.co.uk are very good.

If it goes wrong, you will have to fix it your self, or get the tech back in- that's a risk you take by saving money.

Most places, my self included would not cover the machine after the "post install" period (couple of months). All hardware will be covered by manufractures warentee of course.

Check your local paper for people doing similar stuff, there are quite a few people doing it.

Try and pick someone local to you! If your interested, they might let you watch them build & learn so that you might be self sufficient.
