I've got a contagious disease!

Been diagnosed with Mumps this morning.Face really painful now and I'm beginning to look like a hamster as well with puffed up cheeks.

Was going to South France on Wed but Doc advised us not to fly due to virus being contagious.and risk of me getting worse whilst there. Well pissed off with that I can tell you. Bored with TV already and got at least another week off yet.:(

Somebody didn't have MMR as a sprog!

boxst 22 November 2004 03:00 PM

Hello

Your *FACE* is currently painful?

I think you have bad news to come about what actually hurts when you get mumps...

(I hope you get better soon)

Steve.

I dont think it was around when I was a Sprog Olly.

Interestingly the Doc showed me a book showing the number of cases he's had of mumps in the last 6 months as theyre all reported to the NHS as it's now classed as a notifiable disease. He said the Mumps was all but eradicated until all the fuss over the MMR injections. Cases are increasing dramtically now due to parents worrying wether it's safe or not

Actually I believe mumps can cause permanent atrophy of the testicles in some patients, so, if you havn't got much to lose in the first place....

;)

Never fail do you ajm.... we have being laying bets to who would be the first.... :D

ajm 22 November 2004 03:23 PM

Well most people associate mumps with swelling of the errr... "nether regions". Only the truely knowledgable are aware that permanent shrinkage can occur! :D

(not first hand knowledge I hasten to add! ;) )

Yup, I was reading the other day that a lot of Universities are now having to organise mass vacination sessions as outbreaks are getting worse.

Time to get the wheelbarrow out........... :D

sleeka 22 November 2004 03:34 PM

My housemate has been diagnosed with mumps this morning too!

And she had the MMR jab when little
Maybe am being thick but kind of thought the point of the jab was to stop you getting it, or maybe it just stops it from being so bad????
Am hoping my little antibodies do their fighting job and stop me from getting it too.
Been loads of it going round uni (am in swansea) but no mention of free jabs. Is there a booster you can get?
Although i guess is a bit late for us lot now

Out of curiosity when did they start giving the MMR jab, I thought it was only a few years ago, but the above quote made me think otherwise?? unless your house mate is 5 LOL

One of my best mates kids got it last week and he has had the MMR jab, hossie told them it doesn't stop the kids from getting it, it just lessens the symptomes.

Worrying a little bit as we went the homeopathic route with our nipper, lets hope she doesn't get it!!

Get well soon Chip

MMR first came out when I was a kid, as I had the jabs (am nearly 20) so I guess it was around 1988 ish (gave the doc an earfull cos he 'shouldn't stick needles in poor defencelees 4 yr olds'!)

You are right to be worried in my opinion. These sorts of outbreaks are exactly what doctors predicted would happen if people stopped getting their children vaccinated correctly.

She is 21 and was nearly/about 5 when had the jab.
Think it had only just come in then.
Think it sucks you can have it and spread it for 2-3 weeks before getting any of the symptoms! God damn the clever and sneaky little viruses in the world!!!!

clare.purvis 22 November 2004 11:08 PM
