CHIPPED CABLE BOXES

I have a mate who had his (analogue) cable box chipped, now he wants to move to SKY digital and completly away from NTL and the laughably named 'helplines' they offer !

so my question is.....will he need to get a non chipped cable box (from e-bay for example) to give to NTL when he cancels ?

I reckon he can just give them the chipped box and they will not care about/check for chippedness as they are no longer issuing these old boxes anyway and will just chuck it away.

Thats if they even bother to send someone round for it when the contract is cancelled.

does anyone have any experience or knowledge in this area?

No idea but if they do check it he may be in a whole world of pain. Not sure how easy it would be to get a replacement either as the boxes do remain the property of NTL and they do like them back when you cancel.

Yeah, Mr NTL, I sent it back via Parcel Force, what do you mean you haven't received it?

Oh well must have got lost in the post!

Better have proof you sent it (such as a tracking number) otherwise you may get sent the bill for a new box. NTL would no doubt suggest you claim on the insurance you paid out for with Parcel Force as NTL normally collect the boxes themselves!

I think the lesson here is don't get your box chipped or if you do keep your old one

sky digital is better anyway I reckon

he could tell them this-

"Yeah, Mr NTL, I sent it back via Parcel Force, what do you mean you haven't received it?

Oh well must have got lost in the post!"

but from what I understand its impossible to get through to NTL on the phone anyway - but they might be on the phone fast if its in there interests¬!

I have never had any trouble getting through to NTL, but then I always choose the wrong option on the menu and get put throught to Sales (they are always keen to try and asell more) when I have a problem. You then get them to transfer you through to tech support. It also means you dial in on a 0800 number rather than national rate so you don't pay for it either!!

if he has a chipped box why is he subscribing?

it still works even if not got a contract, 90 percent of homes at one point had the cable wires installed just plug in and off ya go

not unless extremely rare the filter is turned off in the box at end of road

weve had ours for cough cough 5 years :)

It costs me around £120 a month for my Cable services, and if I understand your post correctly, you brag about stealing it

Come on guys we dont allow software piracy to be discussed on here, and this is also illegal and you could be found guilty of commiting fraud.

Hence I am going to lock this thread.

Ian
