Have I broken my new modded Xbox?

Had it less than 4 days and I think I've knacked it already.

Was trying to make Avalaunch my main dashboard and after reading a few threads I decided to rename the evoxdash.xbe file to avalaunch.xbe (after making sure I kept a copy of evoxdash.xbe on the PC).

Rebooted the Xbox and the MS dash appeared. :(

What makes it worse is that I've lost the FTP link so I can't restore the evox file and I'm seemingly stuck with an 'ordinary' Xbox now.

I'm guessing that the Xbox is reading the MS dash as the first valid one it comes across and is loading it by default but how do I/can I restore the evoxdash.xbe file to make it work again?

Any help gratefully received. :)

P.S. It's a Version 1.6 running an Xecuter 2.6 if that makes any difference.

The bios will be looking for evoxdash.xbe to boot from and obviously is not there, if you've got a slayers disk you can bang that in to get you FTP back while you sort the file names out.

Thanks for the reply, Tim.

I don't have a slayers disk, so I guess my only course of action is to get hold of one then. Presumably it wouldn't reformat my hard drive and wipe all the applications etc, on there?

Naa when you boot from slayers disk it doesn’t format unless you select it from the menu. Because it’s got an FTP client you can FTP to it, make the changes you want then take the disk out reboot and all should be back to normal.

You will be able to get slayers from the normal places.

*cough*Suprnova*cough*:D;)

slap the xbox hard-disk in your pc, and copy the file accross :)

Thanks for that. ;)

One final question (or possibly not :) ) I guess I'll have to burn it to a CD-RW rather than a CD-R disk?

DJ Dunk 20 November 2004 01:15 PM

Yes, use CD-RW.

Depending on what bios you have it could be looking for avadash.xbe rather than avalaunch.xbe as this is what it used to be called. It has a boot order and looks to be finding xboxdash.xbe first.

XBox HDD cannot be read on your PC without special software BTW, so I too would recommend using Slayers disc.

Thanks Dunk.

According to the spiel that came with it, its running "BIOS M8_16".

And guess who has a stack of CD-R's but not one single CD-RW in the house!

Think it might just be easier to buy a Slayers disc off ebay and be done with it - it's a bit too cold to go out today. :)

and remember to save the slayers disc as an image file not an iso

If its an M8 bios then its most likely looking for avadash.xbe then :) Just a quick rename will sort you out.
