What's best a T25 or a SPEC C ???

After owning a STI 8 UK PPP for 18 months, having a little play with it and now realising I have lost more money than Nick Leason, I have decided to sell a kidney....or two....and do it all again......what a mug!!!!!

The question is What one???????

I spend most of my time sitting in traffic jams in London so the only fun to be had is acceleration...quickly followed but hectic breaking.....there is always the weekend tho.

I need a Scooby that can be used every day...jump in and out... and sit in those F****N jams and not give me any trouble....oh and it has to blow my mind at the weekends.....Not to much to ask for then

I have been trying to decide between a T25 or a 05 Spec C WR.....I just need some advise from some T25 owners and all you real scoobyheads.

Many many thanks in advance.....oh and if anybody needs a new kidney then you know where to come.

driven neither but if i was choosing in your situation it'd have to be the T25.

For an everyday driver it's gotta be better (aircon, soundproofing etc.)

with a wrx spoiler 4 stealth :)

STI Sideways 19 November 2004 07:04 PM

Thanks mate...like the stealth bit...if thats poss in a scooby.

What about the 4K price diff tho???? is it worth it???

AndyC_772 19 November 2004 07:19 PM

Either car will do what you're after, probably equally well. Given that each T25 is individually built from a Japanese-spec STI anyway, there's nothing to stop you from buying the Spec C WR (except that they don't make them any more - you're looking at a Spec C Type RA now which is its replacement) and having it converted to T25 or T20 spec if you feel the need.

sti8sam1 19 November 2004 07:37 PM

I have recently got a Spec C , It is the LTD so it does have more home comforts,
Was picked up to collect it in a TYPE 25 ,
Thought it sempt ok , Didnt really go fast so...
But what i did notice when i got in the spec C was that it felt so much lighter and responsive off the mark...Also the noise i was expecting from the Spec C was'nt there, you get more deafening with the exhaust from the T25. :)
The words that sprang to mind for the short journey runs would be heavy lump. I know out on the open road it may be fine but surely if your sat in traffic a light nibble playtoy is the better option.
And it is more ecomical than the JDM 8 it has replaced :eek2:
Sam

STI Sideways 19 November 2004 08:12 PM

Thanks Sam/Andy

I was almost decided on a Spec C, I just had this nagging doubt that once I got in it I would be thinking....should have got a T25.....Sam I think your right mate, the Spec C would be better in traffic and considering that's where I would be most of the time.....B***Y post office vans........I think that it would be the best option.

Do you have any regrets with your Spec C Sam????? such as the lack of that famous Burble??????

Any advice would be very much appreciated mate....such as where did you get it, what to look out for and how much?????

Also would you have gone for a normal Spec C without the creature comforts???

SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!...it cant be this complicated when you buy a M3.....but then who wants to be that boring!!!!!!

Many thanks guys

Mark

sti8sam1 19 November 2004 08:23 PM

Mark id already lost the growl as the JDM STI lost that with the newage...
Iain Litchfield said a re-map and a nice pipe will do the trick...And he also said it would not be beat by the EVO400 which he had drove...
Said it had loadsa turbo lag !!!!
I imported it myself to save money but i was lucky Iain helped me with the nasty side, And i obviously get no warrenty... Not that you need one if you look after !!!!

Good luck with your purchase :)

Back to Type R pull off the mark and the top end speed of ?????
Some say more than 173mph :eek2:

I will let you know :)

Get a bike for work and a Spec C for the weekend if I were you.

AndyC_772 19 November 2004 08:41 PM

Don't worry, you won't miss the scooby burble.

My '05 JDM STI (totally standard engine & exhaust) went for its 1000 mile service today, so with running-in over I got to have a play on the way home. Although the burble may be a fond memory, the car has developed a deep-chested bellow that wouldn't be out of place on a car with a much bigger engine. Meanwhile the Type 25 with its Milltek exhaust is louder and has a vicious growl quite unlike any other scooby but well worth winding the windows down for.

Dave_A 19 November 2004 09:05 PM

tough choice, both are reportedly very good cars, I would imagine the response from the engine would be different, leading to a different driving experience. If it was my money, I'd take the spec C. no, sorry, the t-25. oops, no spec C. Argh. as I said, tough choice.

Not sure if I'd consider the T-25 a 'pukka' model like the Spec C (imho), not sure if that would sway my decision one way or the other.

needless to say, being in a position to choose is one I'm very jesalous of!

just read your dilemma, and you are in the same situation as i was in only 5 months ago sti 8 ppp and so on!

i went for the spec c could not afford the type 25 at the time but i aint got no regrets at all the spec c makes the uk ppp feel very tame indeed , i loved the sound from the uk car and would buy a second one if i had the money just for that sound ! The spec c though screems at you through a miltek and you cant help but smile :thumb:

As for speed , well i would be the first to admit i aint the best driver in the world but i can now embarress any evo , you get so much feedback from the car its unreal.

i would defitnatly recommend one!

T5NYW 19 November 2004 09:14 PM

For a nice Family 4 door that goes quite quick ;) The T25 does the buisness  and overcomes STi's wieght with Plenty of Torque :D

The Type C is lighter but maybe a bit 'Raw' for some Owners ;) if you want later ,you can add a 2.5Ltr to the Type C :D

IMHO

Tony

Ps There is also a few UK WR1 and still about worthy to sat with these two ;)

AndyC_772 19 November 2004 09:18 PM

Don't forget that the T25 can be built from any Japanese-spec STI. So, you can have a 'regular' STI-based T25 or a Spec C-based T25 depending on which you prefer.

I picked up our Type 25 Spec C WR Ltd last week and it is fantastic and unlike any other scoob I have driven before, the engine is just begging to be revved and keeping to the 4k rev limit is really hard.
My wife is using it at the moment for the school run and loving it, with no noise or hard ride issues, in fact the Miltek begs for tunnels and narrow streets for the full effect.
We will post some pictures in the gallery very soon.

Yay :D :D :D

I had my 1000 mile service yesterday, driving home was fun :)

I had a go in a Type 25 too - I'm thinking of getting the AST suspension after all. It's quite a beast, although it was an '04 model based on the standard STI and so it didn't have the Spec C's chassis. My first question was 'does this car have the quick rack?' - the steering feel was pretty soggy after the '05 car.

The lesson? Whatever you get, make sure it's based on a Spec C or an '05 model.

sammyh 20 November 2004 12:13 PM

Drove them both, the spec was a bit too noisey for so I went for an 05 T25 :)

STI Sideways 20 November 2004 12:44 PM

Ahhhh now I am all confused again….does anyone know of any good importers of the spec c other that Ian Litchfield….no offence Ian if you are reading this its just that you are so far away and I am trying to do this as cheap as poss…..the market for second hand alcohol damaged kidneys has really taken a knock lately…..Think I am just gonna have to drive both for myself and make a call.

Is the Spec C Ltd Version much slower that the RAW standard one????

As for the bike idea I am afraid I am banned by the wife after crashing the R1 into a tree and spending three weeks in hospital…..OUCH!!!!

On the subject of the wife, has anyone got any good excuses for me as to why I am spending even more money on cars???

Many thanks for all your help guys.

AndyC_772 20 November 2004 12:53 PM

sammyh: I saw your car @ Powerstation yesterday ;)

The Spec C Type RA, which is the 'comfy' new Spec C (now the WR-Limited run has ended), has only been out in Japan for a few weeks, so there's none yet in the country. So, first of all, you might struggle with getting a model report for one - it'll take time, at least. Second, nobody in the UK has driven one yet to tell how it feels. On paper it's a bit heavier, of course, but rest assured that the 'lardy' standard JDM STI is anything but slow.

TonyBurns 20 November 2004 01:09 PM

The new Spec C type RA (stupid name as they are all type RA's  ) is a built to order car only, and there is a run of 300.
It shares some bits from the 555 ltd that was produced in 2004 (mainly the adjustable suspension) and lots of new bits as fitted to all MY05 STi's (plus a few extra bits like the engine oil cooler and different alloys).

The bonnet was down, so I've no idea - sorry.

wouldn't it be great if subaru(jp) reads this and makes a "t25 spec c edition"

I suppose it's all about 'Market Share %' As the T25 is in a different price bracket/Market to UK's Cars I doubt that it's even in concidered a threat but might see a possible 'Niche' market out there.

IM may be more worried about the expanding JDM's import market T20's etc. Which may be ringing some alarm bells at IM UK sales.

Very likely that 2.5 option/model will be available Sept05 especially with the likehood of the New model Sept06 they won't want to be stuck with loads of 'Old' models would they ;)

IMHO

Tony
