If you check out the mail order mags like Computer shopper you will find that some sell an OEM version more cheaply that the best upgrate price I have seen of about £70
To qualify for the OEM price you have to order something else at the same time (anything cheap will do). IIRC reduces price to abotu £50? |
The upgrade version is identical the the full version except that during install it asks you to insert a 98/95/3.1/NT disk to prove you already own a version of Windows. This version can be used to install a fresh OS onto a formatted hard drive and their is no need to install a previous OS first.

I thought the upgrade would require an o/s to be fully installed before it installed on top of it. Can I insert a 98se update disk or does it have to be a full version ? I'll try computer shopper for the best £'s.

Scroll down for XP Home & Pro You may have to buy something else that qualifies as an essential item for building a new PC, ie a £5 CPU fan, to be legit. Nick |
Just hammered by local PC shop into £70 for OEM version. (Saves arsing around with mail order & PC bits I don't need.)

How much would just the disk cost if you already have a licence.
