Just Fitted PPP kit to my STI7, What the F**k its Doing
 

After sitting in my garage for a couple of months I finally got my PPP Ecu fitted to my UK STI7 today, I had already fitted the fuel pump and full exhaust but was waiting for my next service to get it done at the same time so in the meantime also got my boost gauge, knock and lambda gauges fitted just so I could see what was happening when the ECU finally when in, I'm glad I did.

Driving back from the dealers I took it easy to give it plenty of time to get up to temp then after 5 mins of fannying about I floored it in 2nd, the boost must have hit about 1.7bar before coming down to 1.55bar then at about 5k revs it started detting big time so lifted off waited till I got on to the motorway and tried again in a higher gear again the boost was held at about 1.55bar but still detting. So I backed off again and tried to build up gradually and in 4th gear mid throatle it was detting all over the place so I backed off at that and drove home like mis daisy.

Its had a full service so shouldn't have an issue with plugs or air filter, I know about the open loop mapping and the ecu will have to learn and adjust to the MAF and lambda sensor on the car which may have deteriorated over time. I'm in Glasgow and it was pretty cold today and fuel shouldn't have been an issue as it was on the same tank as before the ECU when in and never got a flicker out of the knocklink.

I thought the boost was high for starters I was only expecting about 1.3 held, is 1.5bar normal on a STI7 PPP ? and what would you guys suggest about the detting and before someone suggests it driving around off the boost is not an option.

Its just the standard restrictor, what do you suggest whit the restrictor or would a dawes be better?

Is 1.5 bar normal for a PPP?

would a dawes affect any warranty you may have?

it probably would

Probably need a larger restricto to stop it overboosting. A very small change in restrictor hole size can make a big change to the boost control.

You probably want to increase by 0.1 - 0.2mm

Sounds very high. I would expect about 1.2-1.3bar but I'm no expert on the standard and PPP boost levels of 01>

My MY02 STI Type UK PPP would (sorry psi only me:) ) boost max around 19.5psi.
occasionally it would peak at around 20.4 (according to secs monitor)

Thats 1.34 Bar and 1.4 Bar to the rest of us! lol.

And they are peak figures. The boost does tail off quite quickly.

Well it did until I fitted an APS TMIC, and the boost would hold much longer before tailing off.

And now its been TEK3'd it holds and stays at 1.4 Bar

Does anybody have any comments on the detting, I know reducing the boost should help but I don't think it'll cure it, but I'll keep you posted.

The ECU needs to show 0% with the throttle closed and 100% wide open, otherwise it might read the wrong part of the map at a given throttle opening? The garage should have checked this after installing the ECU.

i thought ppp was 1.15 bar held,1.5/1.7 is way too high-back to the garage before engine gets damaged if you are lucky boost gauge is misreading but unlikely

The boost gauge was reading 1.1bar held on the standard ECU before fitting the PPP.

I drilled out the restrictor a bit and its curred the spiking and is now holding between 1.3 and 1.4 depending on the gear, so I think that is a bit better.

Still getting detting, not have as bad as before obviously because of the lower boost, but it shouldn't be doing it at all. I'll try resetting the ECU and try again.


I've not really had a chance to give it a good blast though as I'm ****ing it something is going to go.
