looking to buy a few shares now and then etc-whats the cheapest online share dealing service people have found?

Not sure if they do it online, but Hargreaves Lansdown charge a similar price, £12 per transaction IIRC.

H&L do online but the interface used to be appaling. They were good at getting inside the spreads though.

Halifax is easy as you don't have to fund it upfront, they do a DD to/from a nominated account for settlement.
