New gantry gatso on M4?

Morning All,

Between the M25 Junction on M4 and the next exit heading West (Langley Junction 5) something is setting my radar detector off.

Its dark when I am going by now, and difficult to see, but I think the overhead gantry is new (variable speedlimit type as on M25) there are also speed cam type markings on the road.

Anyone know if there are plans to extend the variable speed limit onto the M4?

Cheers

Nearly got caught by an unmarked car a little further down the M4 today - near Swindon - dark blue Vauxhall Omega. Happened to glance across as I was about to put my boot down and thought - 'That's an unusual place to wear a hands free phone'...... Then spotted the little lights at the bottom of the back window

He pulled the bloke in front of me who'd earlier shot past me then pulled in quick and slowed down for no reason....... :)

Been quite a few posts about this new M4 revenue cam, surely that'll make a killing? Can only assume the trigger speed is very high.

I travel between Bristol and London often on the M4 and Ive seen lots of camera vans in those 50 limit roadworks, and also loads of police gunning at the side of the road recently. I generally stick to around 85-90 these days, but plenty of people still seem to cruise at 95-100.

Got a better look at it on the way home Yesterday. In fact there was a geezer stood on the gantry as I went underneath.

There are four gantries between the M25 junction and Junction 5 heading west. Its the second one.

This is rather odd because if they were going to make it variable speed limit along there you would have thought at the very least the first gantry would also be of the variable speed limit type. Its not.

I also am wondering what the trigger speed is...

Saw this finally from the back whilst in a queue.

There are definately two cameras in the middle two lanes (its 4 lanes wide here).

Trigger speed was set in excess of 85 two weeks ago last monday. My "friend" will however be driving past them more slowly in future. ;)

Looks like they are installing it on the M42 too - well they have the variable speed gantries like the M25, so I guess the temptaion to use a few cameras will be too hard to resist :(
