Have you ever reported anyone on SN?

Reading another thread on here got me wondering about this, can't ever remember this subject having being covered?

Come on, lets see who's a weasel!!

Who has run crying to the Mods to report someone for an inappropriate post??

Personally, I couldn't be 4rsed to report someone - so? who would do such a thing??

Also, who generates the most complaints (and, no, its not me!) ;)

Pete

I get half my posts removed and I have a list of the people who RTM them, they know who they are - but fairs fair, guidelines and all that.

pslewis 10 November 2004 10:59 PM

Theres a list of weasels????

Where?

Pete

lightning101 10 November 2004 11:02 PM

I've never actually had one single warning, as everything I do and say is intelligently thought through and is meant in the best possible taste.

...I can hear it...the penny dropping....:D

Jerome 10 November 2004 11:07 PM

I've RTM'd a few times, but normally only incases of pictures of dead bodies that would make most people lose the last meal they had. I also once RTM'd a thread where a particularly unpleasant character was getting very nasty and personal about one of the female members here.

If that makes me a weasel, quite frankly, IDGAF. SN is not the place for that kind of unpleasantness.

Even if RTMs were publicly viewable, I'd still have reported.

PS: Pete, I've never reported you.

Hanslow 10 November 2004 11:09 PM

I have ;):p:D

AB and SS by any chance?

Never used the the Report Bad Post button on account of the fact that:-

a) nothing I read on the internet can upset me enough to use it
b) I am pefectly able to defend myself without the aid of a site-appointed chaperone

I have said it before and I'll say it again... those who use the RBP** button because they find something offensive are weak minded.

The only valid reasons for using it, that I can think of, is for genuine legal or commercial reasons.

**Note: The Report Bad Post button should be renamed because RBP is a reserved acronym for Red Bellied Piranha amongst the south american specialising ichthyologist community ;)

ALi-B 10 November 2004 11:12 PM

I have a feeling some sneak reported me. Thus getting me a ticking off from webby

I've not reported anyone, except for 2 threads both of which no action was taken.

 really ajm you get worse with every post you do :p :D:D

Hanslow 10 November 2004 11:15 PM

Mine have normally been issues of free software which I know has legal implications. As I like spending time on here, I wouldn't like to see it go down the pan.

Sometimes I'll just post something sarcastic on the thread though and occasionally have banter with other like minded types wondering where the moderators are and how long it will be to vape the thread / naughty post.

Never reported anyone (that I can remember) for being offensive, hmmm, just had a vague memory of doing it once, but can't remember what for ;)

I have seen plenty of things that would turn most peoples stomachs and know that I can cope with it. However, there are many adults who cannot and shouldn't have to when they come to SN. Then there is the issue of children viewing SN. Do you want SN to have to do an AdultCheck when you log in?

If you are determined to view dead and dismembered bodies, I suggest you use google to find this material. Most normal people, however, do not come to a car related BBS to see this kind of thing.

pslewis 10 November 2004 11:17 PM

This is going to sound stupid, but, where is the button???? Really, I don't have a clue!!

I have always thought that those who don't like a thread don't have to continue reading it, imagine if they overheard some bad language in a shop? they are just the same people who would run to the manager and complain (when all they need do is walk away or stop it themselves, but they wouldn't have the balls to address it themselves would they?)

I can appreciate times if something is 'over the line' of the 'normal' accepted behaviour .......... then there is a case to answer - Porn is one area I would imagine as SN is available to all ages.

Pete, it's the http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/images/buttons/report.gif in the left hand column.

Probably AB, not sure about SS...

davegtt 10 November 2004 11:19 PM

nar I agree with AJM, most of the bad things on SN are links to web sites that might not be suitable for veiwing. whether it be nasty stuff like the car crash I posted the other day or some type of porn (Im sure the odd 1 slip through the net) but usually most people will put a notice saying not safe for work or beware if your easily offended etc etc so if you click on the link anyway then its your own fault, shouldnt be much use for the report a post unless things really start to get out of hand...

pete it is

<----------- over there somewhere.

I was trying to RTM one of the mods for putting serious threads in muppets last week, but I had to PM the webbie cos I couldn't find the button

hang on - it is down there now

hmmmm - down a bit more

<--------- try there

<--------- damn - it keeps moving

<-------- right fek it - I give up

Buckrogers 10 November 2004 11:20 PM

I'm not sure porn is well defined though - is a topless woman porn ?

Probably not, but you wouldn't want kids seeing it, then again I wouldn't want kids on a bulletin board full of adults anyway.

Rug munching, Oral sex and Penetration is obviously too far though even for teens and some adults and there are some sires exclusively for this.

How have you managed to make the mental leap that I WANT to view dismembered bodies?

What I WANT is the CHOICE to view dismembered bodies. What I DON'T WANT is someone else making that choice for me. See the distinction?

To me loss of freedom of choice through censorship, however well intentioned, by some busy body is much more offensive than the content can ever be to a well balanced individual.

a well balanced individual
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/images/icons/icon3.gif just an observation ........

.....take for instance sobebody that keeps man-eating fish as pets, shoots little animals with a rifle, and offers advice on making explosives on public BB's......

Would this person fit into the category of "well balanced individual" ?

just curious ;) :freak3:

ajm 10 November 2004 11:38 PM

I think its possible to be well balanced, yet inherently unstable. Fighter aircraft use this principle for agility and manoeuvrability! :D

David Lock 10 November 2004 11:38 PM

Yeah - I've reported a couple of posts 'cos I think it is important to have some standards. If mods choose to ignore then fine by me.

One was about suggesting that gas chambers worked in WW2 so let's have them again and a recent post as follows that I just thought was so childish and objectionable being:-

"even if that chick was my own mother ad still f*k 'er with no rubber an cum inside 'er... ETC "

DL

Trouble is David, that YOUR standards might not be the same as others - so, you are effectively saying that you want YOUR standards to be maintained.

Mind you, I haven't seen words like that third paragraph in your post - they are tasteless!

Pete

super_si 10 November 2004 11:46 PM

Might click it for this just to see what happens :)

David Lock 10 November 2004 11:51 PM

Yes and No Pete. My standards are mine of course and if I had a bulletin board then my rules would be different. But I do accept that standards may be different for others so I go with the flow until I think basic standards -whatever that means! - are being breached. What are "Standards" - hell that would be a long thread ........... :D David
