Ques for Ian Litchfield /type 25
 

Mr. Litchfield, I was wondering, being that just about everyone adores the type 25, are you going to leave it be, or will you utilize the new 05's bigger wheels, bigger track and modified steering. Barker over at evo mag, who call your type 25 the best impreza ever, didn't seem to think that the mods helped any, only made things worse. Thanks, JL

Where does it say that in Evo? Rest assured, the '05 STI handles beautifully.

The Type 25 is built from a new Japanese-spec STI each time, so it's inevitable that new ones will be based on the '05 car. There's no big warehouse full of '04 cars :)

when i last saw ian he said he was looking forward to the o5 mods for the t25 as it would make it better

Evo had the MY05 Type25 for most of last week (Car of the Year) and everyone seemed to like it :)

The mag will be out next month and I think there will be a preview video on their website sometime soon :)

What I was refering to was Barker's comments about the 05': "The threadblocks of those racy Bridgestones tug and grab at every imperfection in the road and thrum along like off-road tires. This is odd partly because in the Spec C we didn't notice too much noise or distraction..." And his comment; "That strong self-centering (about the modifed steering) action can make rapid correction a little clumsy."

I assume this is why Barker downgraded the cars rating to 4.5 from 5 stars.

Now I suppose his issues with the 05' could be down to the type of tyre, but then again I think that the 04' Spec C had the same type. I worry that the problem could be that Subaru have continued to bump up the size of the tires. From 205 to 225 and now 235's; maybe 235 tires are just not needed, especially contributing to tramlining. I mean no one ever complaned a whit about 225 tires not offering enough grip, why go fatter?

Ian, did the Evo team have a chance to try your car last week in the wet?

It rained heavily for half the time :D

I don't think tyre type is the issue more the application.

MY05 Euro Spec car that Evo tested would have had 225 Tyres as it is only the JDM cars that have increased the tyre width. There are also still difference in the MY05 JDM & Euro Chassis specs (Steering rack for one).

From the sounds of it maybe the geometry was a little out, the car will feel totally different running Powerstation's settings (as all mine do) than a car set within factory tolorences.
