i'm quite interested in this system, if not for the reduced insurance but rather for the security and piece of mind..

Available on their website (http://www.walldonwaypartsshop.co.uk...K_STI_SACC3393) for £113.40, seems like a pretty good price if they were ~£250 before.

eggy790 07 December 2011 09:38 AM

woah i got a bargain then, they had one up on ebay with no reserve. a mate pointed me in right direction, and put max 40 quid bid on it..won for £35 :)

seems like they have one left but who installs these sort of things? and is it suitable for the 5 speed in a rb5?

Davey L 07 December 2011 08:07 PM

None left now i've just bagged the last one!!

I've been hunting for one of these for ages...

scoobeenut 07 December 2011 10:29 PM

I have one fitted to my 6 speed STI, brilliant bit of kit. I think the fitting is done by lifting the car and fitting a bracket around the gear linkage in the transmission tunnel under the car, the pin then locks through the bracket and gear linkage at the same time. As said before they only fit the 6 speed box.

Davey L 08 December 2011 07:58 AM

hope it comes with full fitting instructions then.....

They do a version which fits the 5 speed, as fitted to my WRX.

For a RB5 you need a different version called a Barrier Deadlock, requires some welding unlike the Dipol.

do you happen to know anyone/anywhere good in the south east (or even london) that will fit one of these?

Sorry no, but your best bet would be to start with a main dealer. My Barrier Deadlock was fitted at the dealer when the car was new (2000), but they didn't actually do the work.

The Deadlock design was probably dropped in favour of the Dipol, due to it being easier to fit (no welding required). The Deadlock was a better product as the pin stayed fixed in the device, and therefore couldn't be mislaid. Both are very good though.

Davey L 12 December 2011 01:26 PM

I'm getting mine fitted by Clark Motorsport in the early new year. Told them about it when it was booked in for the MOT/Service and they said not a problem.

lanceuppercut 12 December 2011 04:40 PM

any idea what the part number of the "barrier deadlock" is? don't fancy calling up a dealer and asking them for some random part, at least if i can quote them a number, their monkeys can go away punch it into the system to check :)

bonesetter 12 December 2011 04:52 PM

Have another thread read, this is not a dealer part.

B4D HK 13 December 2011 11:29 PM

Dealers stated that the 6speed needed welding! tbh I honestly don't think they have a clue :(

Yes it is!

Or at least it was... It has, as stated previously in this thread, a part number of SACC3393... Perhaps they have discontinued it now I don't know, but that part number is specific to the UK Subaru Franchise and was created by I.M (the official Subaru importers) when they commissioned the product and started to sell it through their Dealer Network as an official Subaru upgrade/accessory.

Subaru part numbers for standard factory parts are generally made up using a format of 5 numbers 2 letters 3 numbers ie 15208AA100, but all accessories commissioned by I.M for the UK market have a part number which starts SACC (S=Subaru, ACC= Accessory) followed by 4 numbers....

Just as any accessories promoted by I.M for their Izuzu Franchise uses a part number that starts IACC.

If you google the part number then you will see that apart from e-bay, the listings are nearly all from Official Subaru Dealers.. If this part has now been discontinued it may be worth your while contacting these dealers to see if they still have stocks of these and wan't to get rid of them for a decent price :thumb:

Anyone got a fitting guide for the 6speed?

Davey L 07 January 2012 09:45 AM

Honestly a fitting guide shouldn't be needed. It's held on place by shear bolts and is simple to fit. The trickiest part is probably lining up where to trim the side panel for the locking pin to go in...

B4D HK 07 January 2012 09:27 PM

cheers Dave, could you kindly PM me your tel number :)

Picked up the kit today and its the same one, but not sure where the smaller black metal bits go..........?

Davey L 07 January 2012 10:59 PM

I'm guessing it's a squarish bit with a hole in it..... It's what the pin goes through. Attaches to thre gear change bits under the gaiter trim. The pin doesn't block the lever it locks through the 3 chunks of metal....

boomclart 08 January 2012 01:38 AM

Are these recognised by insurance companies yet? If so what range of discount do they seem to attract?

Davey L 08 January 2012 10:46 AM

No idea, i think they used to be and i think their website says they are. I fitted it for my own peace of mind cos i got used to having one on my other scooby. I'll check with my insurance company when i call to get the whiteline kit added. Not sure mine would be 'officail' though as it wasn't fitted by a sanctioned installer. Not that i could find one of those in 3 months of looking

B4D HK 08 January 2012 04:56 PM

ill have a go, anyone got any pics without the gaitor on? :)

Davey L 08 January 2012 06:22 PM

I'll PM you some tomorrow!

davedipster 08 January 2012 08:40 PM

I had mine fitted to my 03 sti when new, never had a discount on the insurance in those 8 years :(
Great bit of kit though.

dipster.

Top man :)

Thinking of getting one of these, at the price of £113 its a snip. Just been to the Walldonway website and they are out of stock. Any ideas when they may get some in or somewhere else I could get them from for that price.
