servicing in hertfordshire or nearby legacy gtb

Hello all,
I need a major service on my GTb and would like recommendations from yourselves. My understanding is a genuine dealer won't touch it plus my bruv had difficulties with my nearest subaru main dealer.
I'm in Welwyn Garden City, I don't mind paying good money but would like to know I'm getting a proper job done by people who know what they are doing.
Sorry if boring thread and info available elsewhere.
Please tell me your favourite dealers and why alsoi the closer to me the better,
many thanks for anyone who reads this,
Dave T

should i have mentioned something about the viscosity of oil to generate a response (see thread posted at same time-27 replies-none for mine-feeling a bit left out)

I have been recommended to use Risborough 4x4 in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, I've not done 15000 miles in my B4 yet so can't comment, but when I spoke to them to find out about prices and service schedules he sounded like he knows what he's talking about.

Dave - speak to Knowlsey at Xtreme Scoobies - decent prices and very knowledgable. My car has all its servicing done there now. They are based in Boreham.

Quenbys in Baldock.... They service anything including all their imported rally cars !!

Speak to Len on 07771-636609 he owns a garage in Theale or maybe Newbury now as he moved recently called "Subaru 4 U"
Excellent place to get your GTB looked after, certainly knows his stuff and prices are good too.

Really! Thats where my dad gets his Scoobies from. they're great!I gather they want the business as not many Subaru dealers in this area.

There are enough Scooby dealers in a 50 mile radius of them. Adams in Aylesbury, 1 in Milton Keynes, plus Quenby's.

Then you have SCC performance in St Albans as a specialist.

IMHO (and based on my personal experience, so I'd have to disagree with one of the comments above), I'd avoid your 'local' Subaru franchised dealer and go to one of the recommended independents.

Dont use adams, they didnt replace plugs or air filter on the service I had(46K, all the belts etc)

dr_ming 03 November 2004 01:38 PM

You have to wonder how Subaru dealers came out top in some of the JD Power surveys. If they are good, imagine what a bad dealer must be like.

BTW, I wasn't talking about Adams, but useful to know.

I asked Adams in Aylesbury for service schedules and prices and found it odd that the 60K and 90K services were the same price, neither of them included a new cambelt.

They were also significantly more expensive than some of the independents even when you added the price of the cambelt to the independent's service.

I shall not be using Adams.

Servicing in Hertfordshire

Hi mate

I also live in Herts. Firstly Its just my opinion but really wouldnt recommend SCC in St Albans . My car was bought at Quenbys and there service is good and they will service anything, but they are expensive.

I found the best places near Hertfordshire are Anthony Betts in Aylesbury who used to be Subaru dealers, so its the same staff who know the car but cheaper prices.

Also Fensport in Cambridge are excellent. They are Toyota specialists but will service Subarus and they really know there jap cars

Cheers

Ash

scc are on london rd st albans...

Mark_S 03 November 2004 08:14 PM

Anyone recommend SCC, are they any good?

Daft question but do they know how to change the oil/filter properly

kayeabl 04 November 2004 08:51 PM

SCC

I don't know how to say this politically but SCC are renowned and well known for there work on Ford's but just in my opinion you are better off taking the Subaru elsewhere. I have had problems with them but im sure other people have had work done there without any problems!!!

cheers
