100w h4 bulbs - anyone use them on a classic?

currently using ge megalights +60% jobs and must say they are not much better than standard.

You're on a loser here, m8, for more than one reason.

1. No matter WHAT bulbs you put in standard Impreza lights, the design of the reflector/lens puts light all over the place, so not enough goes where you need it. The only REAL solution is to junk the OE headlights and replace with Morette style twin lamp units. These have the advantage of round lights that put light where it should be, and an extra pair of main beams.

2. GE Megalights are 60% better output than the normal 60W, which roughly gives 96W. Only 4W less than the 100W you're looking at, without the problem of uprating wiring, (yes, I know the wiring will cope, but you'd be amazed at the volts drop it gives with that sort of wattage, utterly negating the gains), and will you even notice the extra 4W?

3. GE Megalights, PVP, Osram Silverstar, are all well made and put light where it should be, given a good reflector/lens. Other 100W lamps, even VERY expensive ones, have been shown, in many tests, not to do so, and in some cases, to perform worse than OE 60W lamps.:(

It may seem stupid, but are you sure your lights are properly aligned and cleasn, before complaining? Especially the alignment????

yeah checked the alignment on the garage door. also tried the adjusters in car and the pattern looks fine when it is up close.

as you say it is more than likely the reflectors are probably just the pits :( the mrs has a renault scenic and standard 60w lights and they put the subarus to shame.

the PIAAs make up for the poor dip tho (RB5)

Have you had any problems with your spot lights blowing? Mine are forever blowing. Possibly the relay me thinks??

Uprated wattage bulbs in the standard lights makes a big difference.

Roughly, the 90/130 watt bulbs on mine are on par the CST lights on our BMW - which are pretty good.

Reflectors, relays and wiring are fine. Although the thin gauge wire does cause a small voltage drop, which would be remedied by rewiring and using larger relays.

Upgrading the lights would improve things further. But swapping the bulbs is an easy and simple low cost option :)

Oh and before anyone goes forking out unesercery wonga. Don't buy rip-off priced PIAA bulbs.

Lucas and Guardian make high wattage automotive bulbs for a much more realistic price.
