Tag Heuer Carrera - Thoughts???
Been looking for ages for a nice watch. And have refused to buy anything unless it really jumps out at me. Think I've found it ...
http://www.blitzwatches.co.uk/produc...productid=1854 I've seen it in the flesh and it looks gorgeous but the sales assistant new nothing. Anyone have any comments on this watch. Also, are there any reliable and cheap on line stores I should know about. |
very nice watch for the money, dont know much about them but quite tempted myself having seen that picture.
Have always wanted a rolex is the only thing.... chopper |

This does look like a Bond watch man!;)
|
I was just going to say that the Carrera in the link looked like a Speedmaster, when I had a look at the second link!
I was all set to buy a Speedmaster last year, but when I was in the shop I tried on a Carrera (leather strap, not steel) and had to have it! So try them both in a shop if you can, it's much easier when you can see them on your wrist :) |
Bought mine a few weeks back
see here:http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=372504 I did actually try that one you posted, but ive been wanting the one i actually bought for years, and im not a fan of metal straps so that won. I also wanted a manual wind. Nice tho- i doubt you will find it much cheaper in the uk than that (from an authorized dealer anyway)... unless yoza knows different.........? |

I'm not so keen on the newer designs of Tags to be honest, I am a function over form man myself. Over the last few years my Tag series 2000 has proved itself almost indestructable. Apart from being torn from my wrist twice (each time breaking a pin) the thing has proved itself to be the only thing able to stay on my wrist on a daily basis without being ruined by saltwater, shaken to bits with shotgun recoil, or scratched to buggery that I have ever owned!
I hope the newer arty farty designs are just as hard wearing! |
My Trident FCX is springbar free.....(or pin as you put it) :)
It is shotgun proof too, so long as your stood at the right end. Its also left hook proof, which is more than I can say for my long lost Submariner... WWW.CHASEDURER.COM Its a bit of an animal, and not to most peoples taste, I payed $1600 and the dollar was stronger against the pound when I purchased it. But thats about right for me....:D |

lol I own a pair of sunglasses, which were widely advertised as having lenses able to withstand a shotgun blast at close range. Impressive, but if the rest of the spray destroys the rest of your head, what use would an unbroken lens be.. Always baffled me that one |
Yeah, a bit like my Oakleys give me Thermo-Nuclear protection. :D

I have some 1 1/4 ounce AAA (buck shot) shells that decimate just about anything in their way at close range. Fancy putting those shades to the test? :D http://www.drift.net/scoobynet/aaa.jpg |
They are oakleys as yoza mentioned.
Ive seen it done- M frame lens blasted with a shotgun, and it didnt break. Impressive, but then it wasnt my lens.... i think ill pass on that |

I'm no expert but Breitling even though a tad more expensive are waaaaaaaay better than Tags Just imho :) |
Sorry dont like it, all those nasty little numbers, I wear glasses for reading and wouldnt want to put them on to tell the time, GMT2 any one?

btw, anyone else own a Tag Carerra?
|
Get on an Easyjet flight to Geneva, buy it at the airport (Geneva, not Liverpool) and fly back, I was looking at the Monaco and it was way cheaper out there.
Make sure you wear it and secrete the box in your luggage, or even better ditch it. |
What sort of price are they at Geneva?
Here its £685. http://www.tagwatchesdirect.co.uk/ta...1b_fc6201.html In Goldsmiths its £995.At Blitz £885 (ish). |

Not sure not been in ages, just remembered the Monaco was about 800 quid cheaper about 2 years ago, compared to a jewllers in Wilmslow that is.

Personally I prefer the ones made around 2001, which were re-issues of the 1964 edition so say "HEUER" instead of "TAG HEUER". There isn't really a need for the TAG bit any more anyway (Techniques D'Avant Garde) because as I understand it the whole shebang is owned by LVMH anyway.
Austin Kaye on the Strand (www.austinkaye.com) have a couple of 2001 editions and an original 1964. |
Very tasteful, as for keeping perfect time, I have a ratty copy that keeps perfect time !

Library pic: http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/B65heuer2.JPG Have worn it every day for almost 17 months ish now, and its still perfect! :) |
I'd also go for the white-faced one. I have a black-faced IWC Mk XV with a black leather strap -- no point in owning two similar-looking watches, IMHO.
|
jesus, id rather spend that kind of wedge on my Scoob, lol.
I have the most accurate watch going and it cost me 22 quid haha (gets atomic clock signal from Rugby) doesnt look as showy as a TAG etc tho to be fair |
If you're gonna get a Carrera then get a propper 60's Heuer one not a modern reproduction.
