received nip for car i've traded in

Traded the car in to a garage just over a month ago and received a nip through the post this morning....

When I was at the garage the bloke there said he'd sort out the log book paperwork but I guess he never did it.. :( My own fault really...

Am I likely to be stung for the points?

Cheers

Hard to say but if you did not inform DVLA then you might well be I'm afraid. I should write to the police and tell them and not only that you have no idea who might have been driving the car since it is no longer yours.

write back and say you traded the car and did the log book.. 14million bits of post lost.. who's to say yours wasn't one of them?

Do an Archer?

Or just go with Leslie's answer. As long as the event was after you sold it you are not guilty (of speeding)
as for not forwarding the ?V5 probably a time limit before it is an offence?

Surely you have a receipt for the car you bought? This will show the car you traded in thus proving you sold it and weren't the driver. If it ever got to court I'm the magistrate would be satisfied that you clearly were not the driver.

Theres a section on the back of the nip to fill in if you've sold the car on... I'll do that and see what happens.. the reason I was worried was because i'm sure I heard there had been a change in the law regarding stuff like that...

The offence only happened 3 days ago.. pretty sh1t hot the nottinghamshire dibble! Interestingly it doesn't say what speed triggered the offence.. only had speeding in a 30 limit.

Cheers.

I had this with my old rex, except I had EIGHT NIP's to deal with.

I contacted the DVLA and the police who both said if I could provide proof that the car was no longer mine then they would be taken out of my name.

Took me a while to do, but nevertheless, the police were extremely helpful over this....the DVLA however....well.....

Edited to say, one I could prove I was out of the country at the time of the incidents and two, I found the documentation to prove it was no longer my car. :D
Act now as they don't hang around with these!

The onus is on YOU to ensure that the vehicle documentation was dealt with correctly, when you sold the vehicle.
