MPG question

If I do 687 miles and use £75 worth of Optimax @ 90p a litre what is my MPG

(687 * 4.54 * 0.9) / 75

FLAT ERIC 27 October 2004 09:43 PM

As teacher would say "Please show your working out". :)

£75 divide by £0.90 = 83.33 litres.

83.33 litres divide by 4.54 = 18.35 gallons

687 miles divide by 18.35 gallons = a Victor Meldrew "I don't believe it" 37.44mpg

Not if it's a scooby unless some of the journey was on a flat bed recovery wagon. ;)

Mark.

Who was pushing the car? best my STI has ever done is 22MPG normal sub 20!!!!

KJD Mk1 28 October 2004 05:50 PM

37 mpg:eek2: must be a diesel!!!!:D

willy 28 October 2004 06:48 PM

I managed 31mpg from near Manchester to Cornwall this summer.
I drove off boost and at 60mph all the way.
Oh my95uk turbo... full of camping gear and 2 bicycles on the back.

I was pretty chuffed, but pretty bored.

Willy

If the calculation is correct my car does the average of 27mpg on a MY96 WRX STI RA.

I'm well happy with that.

DEEDEE 28 October 2004 07:31 PM

Hand on heart, On my kids lives, God strike me dead, and all the others you can think of. I left home and never went over 3000 rpm there and back, same as willy got
pretty bored, no re-phrase it, bored fcukin stupid but no points coming. My car is a standard MY99 Turbo

Normski 28 October 2004 07:59 PM

I've never tried to save fuel on a long continuous run, but i too get around 25MPG with general driving (a bit of full boost action in there as well) from my 96 STi RA (even with it's really low gearing, 70MPH @ 4200rpm).
Low weight helps with fuel economy.;)

*Sonic* 28 October 2004 08:14 PM

on those calculations then,

best 28mpg
worst 13mpg

and general average

22mpg

KJD Mk1 28 October 2004 08:32 PM

dont know what my mpg is but my best miles per tank full is 290 worst about 200, i try not to look too much:eek:

John P 29 October 2004 02:50 PM

sure you didnt do the sums wrong with the milage, NEVER in 4 years have i managed over 300 miles to a tank, even when doing all motorway driving.

Ouch mate!!

Usually get between 240 and 290 per tankful. Stopped using Optimax tho' as my CEL keeps coming on with it. Any old SUL and it's fine....

a semi useful aid for the consceintious? :freak3:

hades 29 October 2004 07:29 PM

I got 370 miles from a tankful - just over 11 gallons - the other week . . . (modded bugeye, so slightly larger tank), and even that's only around 31mpg. Long journeys, although I admit I may have been going at a fraction over 60mph - but only for 360 miles or so on that tank ;)

hades 29 October 2004 07:31 PM

Talking on a completely unrelated maths-type question, 40/2 and 50/2 are fractions, aren't they? ;) :D:D

blockmonke@fsmail.net 30 October 2004 02:08 AM

hopefully we will get our mits on all that lovely iraqi oil soon so try not to worry about mpg

scooby-si 30 October 2004 04:08 AM

deedee drives like an old man (sorry he is an old man) lmao;)

my best 18mpg

worst about 8ish:D :notworthy:

Tentenths 30 October 2004 10:47 AM

Don't forget that most speedos/mileometers over-read by approx. 10% so the true mpg will be even lower!!
