MY01 WRX - Starting Problems

Car has developed a starting problem recently, sometimes takes 3-4 seconds to start up, struggles to turn over, eventually starts and then stinks of petrol.

Doesn't always happen, sometimes turns over at the first attempt.

Anyone had similar problem?

Cheers

mine was slow at turning over although it did start every time - i bought a new battery and it turns quicker now. I also thought about winter coming and the extra strain on the battery

First point to check will always be the battery and as the weather gets colder it will only get worse if its on its way out.

Another thing to look at whilst you check the battery is the earthing point the battery uses, my old MY01 needed cleaning and Vaseline adding to the connections to keep them in good nick as they where looking corroded and that was back in January when i sold it.

Cheers guys, I'll check the battery and connections first.

Strange thing is, when the car has been left for a few days (garaged) it starts fine.

Then if I drive somewhere, leave it for a while say 1-2 hours thats when I have the problem

Chris

Every now and again my MY02 does not want to start on the first few turns and then stinks of petrol.

I'm not sure what mods you have got but I assume the bigger fuel pump and ECU etc. I have just sticks in more petrol than the engine can cope with when it doesn't catch first time !

Never ever let me down though :D
