Exhaust Noise

I've purchased a Sound level meter, so I can measure the db level of my exhaust.

My idea was to check my noise level before I get to a track, so i can sort any issues before hand.

What I need to know is how do they measure your exhaust noise at a track, ie distance from tailpipe, revs, A or C level, anything else I've missed?

Thanks in advance

Mike :)

As mart said, 45 deg angle, some people use 0.5m distance, others 1m... Make sure you use the A-weighting, and make sure whoever measures you at a track uses the A-weighting too! Bear in mind a cheapo sound level meter should only be used as a guide, and not as a definitive answer. Think the speed used is 3/4 of maximum engine speed or something like that.
